GIANT BUCK!

Post by ollogger »

An old friend of mine From Wisconsin, called with news of his son shooting a huge buck.
Last day of the season. Eau Claire County, Town of Fairchild. 8 point, the kid is already getting unreal offers from all over... last offer was mighty big.. lucky kid!
I am sure you all will be reading about this one all over the nation and Canada. I was told its the 3rd biggest whitetail taken in WI. Probably 5 or 6 in the nation!
Will see when it dries.

Tell him not to take any 'offer' of anything until he sits back and sifts through them, whether regarding this deer, or any other thing down the road.

im glad they got him befor the wolves did
he will go down in history now, the critters can dine on lesser animals

Wison Township is a little scary. I live on XX just south of the Chippewa county line. I just read the buck story on the channel 13 WEAU website. Sounds like your friends son has been hunting that buck for a while. Otherwise this years deer hunt was short on deer. I talked to hunters that didn't even see a deer.

OH ok, The kid is going to do well with this buck.
Yes the wilson area can be scary but my wife always knew how to handle them. She bartended at the Hide A Way for 8 years, did you ever get to the watering hole there? ON Lake Eau Claire.
I heard the deer were shy in areas. Lots of wolves and bear and lions the DNR still deny are there.
Are you guys testing for CWD there yet?

I stop by there after fishing on lake Eau Claire. Not a regular though. Yes they do random CWD testing in all the counties. Hopefully I will have better luck Coyote hunting this year. This spring I would have a doe show up on the game camera about every 3 or 4 days. With in 20 minutes of her on the game camera two coyotes would show up. They were following her just waiting for her fawn. This went on for weeks. So I'm focusing on yotes this winter.

The picture kind of reminded me of a local kid shooting a buck on my property about 4 or 5 years ago. He shot it on the west side of the river and it swam over to this side and laid down. They came and asked if they could go get it and I said they could. I watched from the buildings as they went down to the end of the forty and I could see the glistening from his rack . He was laying on his side and the rack stood upright. Later I had heard they were waiting on word whither it was big enough to score in the Boone and Crocket listings. It sure was a wide rack.
This year I shot a nine point and while registering it, the fellow said it was the third largest buck he had seen this year. He said that there were two others that were shot together about 1/2 mile west of me... Those two were the ones I had seen all summer and into the fall in my hay field and I was hoping they would be in my woods patch come gun season. Could see their racks just flashing in the evening sun at a quarter mile away.
Deer population is down here and too many coyotes around, many packs of them. Then include the wolfies and a few big cats an bear... Seen three of them opening morning.... no wonder the deer numbers are down...
(discloser) Not a gunsmith, just a tinkerer at heart, it gets me into trouble, When I take it apart...

What the east of the Rockies call an "8 point" would be a 3 point out here. Eye guards don't count, but in their defense mulie and blacktail eye guards usually don't grow like those of whitetail. Regardless of the "point count" that is a tremendous buck and a accomplishment for any hunter of any age, but made especially sweet for a youngster. :)
