Marlin 336 makes Venison

Post by Bigahh »

Just got back from my week long Deer Hunt. Had a nice 10 pointer in my sights all fall, and when the chance to tag him came along last monday the Marlin 336 in 30-30 did its job. Had a 60 yard shot quartering away in heavy cover. The 170 grain Hornady Flat Point entered the back portion of the ribs and exited the opposite shoulder. The 197 pound dressed weight buck went 25 yards. I was extremely happy with Gun and Bullet. I think I will still get the .35 rem I have wanted, but that little 30-30 is hard to beat topped with a 1.75 x 6 Leupold ! Buck has 10 points, both G-4s are broken along with a brow tine. It has a 19 inch inside spread and green scores 152.

In my mind it is the perfect combo for the Hunting we have here in the Big Woods of Wisconsin. Quick close to medium range shots are the norm. Mid 70s Marlin that is about to get a good cleaning this morning !

Very nice looking animal there. Excellent scope choice as well.

Getting away for a week of solid hunting is a wonderful way to clear the mind.

Fine looking animal there, Bigahh. And a fine looking rifle. I have a virtually identical setup with my 336 in 35 Rem, using the 2x-7x Burris -- makes for such a handy rig! I've packed mine several times looking for a lady elk this year, but no joy so far.

Don't get much better than that 'ceptin' if you were usin' a Marlin 336 in 32 Special.
Good hunt.

Great buck and I really like your rifle set up. I think you'll like a 35 Rem as well. Congratulations.

not only a levergun--but the lowly under-powered 30/30--yikes... :)
Nice deer--thanks for sharing...
