picked up my turnbull winchester 92 deluxe takedown in 44-40

Post by buckeyeshooter »

Picked up my new rifle today, the plan is to use it for cowboy action shooting in the blackpowder class. Thinking about maybe taking it out deer hunting next week too. Here are a few photos;

more to come when I get time to upload to photobucket

I agree, that will look finnished breathing BP smoke and a sooty muzzle :D

IIRC Kirk got a deer with a 44-40 but I don't think he used BP. I think you should correct this as soon as possible :D

Almost too pretty to shoot. Notice I said almost, go make smoke with that beauty and see what it can do. They were made to shoot.

Absolutely luv it! If it had a 2/3 magazine, it would be just like T.R. pulled it from the packing box.

Absolutely gorgeous!

Compete with it? Hunt with it? Heck, I'd put it on a chain so I could wear it around my neck for bling, and probably sleep with it, too! :lol: Beautiful gun.

Wow, is that purtty. Did Turnbull also remove the tang safety and all those other unnecessary items?

Yes, tang safety removed, 1/2 cock hammer and internals fitted and check the photo of the hammer-- its checkered and boardered like an old one.

I shot it this evening, 8 grains of 2400 in a starline case with a 200 grain cast. It shot 3 1/2 inch group at 50 yards in a 15 shot string. I had some 3 shot groups that had all shots touching.

Kentucky deer season starts saturday-- I'm going to try and down one with this gun this year. I;ll shoot some of the black loads I put together today and see if I can get one with black powder. I loaded 40 grains of FF under a 200 grain lead in a starline case.
