OK, gonna be contrary again.

What does that improve? Didn't read Jeff Quinn's article yet, but as soft as that lead nose is, what does it improve? Hmmm? Somebody please 'splain this to me.

And I still haven't got past the fact you gotta beat on a rim fire cartridge with a tool. That scares the pelosi outta me!

Joe,
If you had read the article, you would know that with this tool, you beat on nothing. Just as with our handgun bullets, a blunt nose with a wide meplat does more tissue damage than does a roundnose bullet.

Jeff,

I understand about wide meplats vs round nose bullets. But although that .22 Mag bullet is more or less a round nose, it is a hollow point with soft lead exposed. Would not this soft lead expand regardless it's shape? It would seem so to me.

Anyway, I'll go read the article now that my plans for this afternoon have been scuttled.

Alrighty then, I read the article. So you don't beat on the .22 mags you chop off it's nose. Okeee Dokeeee.

Joe,

I can see this as a way to make cheaper and more available FMJ .22 Mags viable game loads.

I think I want one. Next, how about a tool to cut a little bit of the nose off of the FMJ 5.56 rounds. The FMJ rounds are cheaper, and doing to them what this tool does to a .22 sounds ideal to me.

FMJ 5.56mm bullets have an exposed lead base. Cutting the jacket off at the nose leaves both ends of the bullet core exposed, and risks the possibility of the core shooting through the jacket, leaving the jacket stuck in the bore.

Good point. I've made it myself before...

There are rounds like the Dynapoint that are much cheaper than the premium rounds like those loaded with the 30 gr. TNT, as much as $9-10 a box cheaper. I have some Remington SPs that I got for the outrageous price of $70 for 500 (yeah, outrageous then!). They might benefit from this. I see it as a bigger boon to the revolver shooters.

Jeff,

Isn't that also a likely occurrence if the nose of a .22 WMR FMJ gets snipped off?

Could be, Doc, but I have only used it on hollowpoint and softpoint ammo.

Jeff,
I did click on the link and it just took me to the GunBlast write-up. I must be blind 'cause I didn't see any info on how to order.

I might be mistaken, but I believe that tool was the brain-child of the late Mr. Alan Taylor, the father of Jim Taylor, a regular here.

Mr. 1894cfan, from the text of the review:
"To order this dandy little AT System Flatface Tool Kit, send a check to:

Paco Kelly
P O Box 1170
Cortaro, AZ 85652"

Mr. Hudson, from the text of the review:
"Now, Paco has invented a tool that is based upon one designed by Alan Taylor many years ago, the cuts the bullet nose instead of reforming it by impact. "

SO okay I have Paco's Acurizer/Nasti Nose. I have no problem whacking on .22's to produce a flat meplat. Or full wadcutter. Wicked hollow point.

In fact I rather enjoy the pleasant diversion of whacking on 22's.

Imagine my delight when I see Paco's AT gizmo for the .22 WMR. I love it. But, tell me - does it do anything to other .22's that the Acu-rizer cannot?

I haven't used either of Paco's tools. I have used the method Marshall Stanton of beartoothbullets.com describes. By blunting the nose of a .22LR with a file, I punched holes holes about 1" in diameter through a metal pizza pan . As mentioned here or at gunblast, using the file is slow--but cheap. Wide meplat hits harder.

This is for Paco: I just got my SShort sizing set. It looks like a work of art! Can I actually use it? Just kidding, but it does look like a work of art. I can't wait till I receive the Long Rifle accurizer and the rim checker That is going to be awsome! Thanks. Robb Simer

Would there be any problems shooting PACO modified flat nosed .22LR ammo through a suppressor?
