Andy
I will make sure to take pics this time and post them. Mokwaw I was thinking about it if we car pool we can take my explorer it has plenty of room for people and guns and we dont have to worry about rain.

As for a time I think 9:00am sounds it means an early start for some of us but it will be worth it.

OI does this place have a street address I didnt see it on the map. I have gotten lazy and use my GPS when going some place new.

There's not really a Street Address... it's just a chunk of land on 200S.

lat=41.2736453714, lon=-86.7312851692

http://maps.google.com/maps?t=h&hl=en&i ... 06866&z=17

However, I will set up a couple of signs pointing the right direction.

Google can give you good turn-by-turns if you use the Google Earth KMZ, but really the simplest directions I can give are:

Go South on State 39 from US 30 untill you see my sign. ;)

Jeremy,
Yes your explorer be fine with me. I am planning on bringing some extra stuff, like fold up camp chairs and a cooler with some soft drinks and water, probably some hot dogs and buns and fruit for lunch. Also, will have my portable shooting bench, it folds pretty flat, and a couple of those steel spinner targets to shoot at.....do you think there will be room....????...I can pare down if need to.

I will be bringing:

A small portable generator (assuming I can get it to keep running)
A 10" Armorplate Spinner/Gong capable of handling High Velocity Spitzers
A 3" .22 spinner
As many Political Yardsigns as I can collect

A small tent, cooler, ice, propane camp stove, chairs, 5-10 gal water, etc.

The range has a small number of "not currently in use" Steel Sillouhettes that we can set out on the rails.

There is a fire pit out there that has been used at some time in the past, but it looks like it was used by the farmer for burning garbage - not cookouts - so if anyone has a portable firepit it might be nice.

Hey Guys... AFAIC this is even more important now than before...

And I will be giving each attendee a gift worth roughly $50 if you were to purchase it.

Call it a "Mental Stimulus Package".

I just need to know how many are showing up.

I PM'd a couple of other Indiana shooters, but no reponses yet. I see Eric65 says will be there if possible. I haven't heard from PPPastorDon yet, will e-mail and remind him, he's near Lafayette, so maybe Knox won't be too far for him. Maybe some of the Michigan shooters can make it.......?????.....How about JMiller its only 3-4 hours from Springfield...?????

How about it guys...???....next Sunday Nov. 16th........Knox, In.....you need to be there.

Anybody in the General AO is more than welcome to appear.

It will be Coolish (around the mid 35-40deg) but I'm going to bring a propane tank & burner to warm your hands over.

Knox is 6mi down the road (200-S) and has a hotel... but I don't know anything about it.

I will plan on arriving early Sunday Morning (7am local) to set up (Sunrise is at 7:30). Anyone wishing to camp needs to PM me ASAP and I will change gears and meet up with you to camp out Sat night myself. Be advised the site is 98% primitive (there is an outhouse... ish...).

Assuming I can get it running properly, I will bring my little 800w generator (Anybody know anything about reed valves?)

PM me with your Cell # and I will add you to my "yes I will take your call" list and we can organize by phone if you get lost / have questions not germaine to Posting.

FWIW, Knox is on CST. Most of y'all are on EST. So you might get there "early"... if you're not careful.

Have fun guys. We pro-gunners need to 'network' more.

I'd be there, but for a 'date' with son and daughter both for opening day of deer season. Pray the 180 grain .357 thumps her a Bambi. I know he'll get one (he's made it a science), and I don't really care if I do; I'm just there to help them if they need it; deer have a way of finding gullies to dive in just before they expire...

Since I don't have any non-overpopulated FWA areas to hunt, I'm not going out with the Rifle until the December Park Hunt. Until then, I'm going to focus on my newly aquired UDZ Bow area.

If I'm batting Zero, I'll do Muzzleloader though.

Re: Hey North East Hoosiers Get Together and Shoot (up date)

Post by JReed »

Well today was the day for our shoot. Woke up this morning to find the truck had a light dusting of snow on it but we were not to be denied. The boys and I threw on another layer of cloths let the truck warm up and hit the road. We meet up with Mokwaw on the way to car pool out to the range. With a truck full of guns and boxes of ammo it was looking to be a great day. :)
The temps hovered around 35 all day with a good wind blowing (and as I write this fresh snow is falling outside) between the layers of warm cloths and OI having the foresight to bring a stove to heat water with we hardly noticed the cold ( pocket warms are a gift from God). It turned out that only 5 of us turned out Old Ironsights, Mokwaw, My 2 boys and my self. The boys had a great time with their 22s and they even shot a couple of the grown up rifles. OI had brought out a 10" gong and we all had fun making the sweet music that only lead hitting steel can make :D .

I had brought my camera but the darn thing didnt agree with the cold but OI snapped some pics so you all will have to wait for him to see them. All in all it was a great time with great people at a very nice range. We had the whole place to our selves and only had to worry about our selves and running out of ammo. I greatly look forward to the next gathering but I think we will shoot for a warmer time of year. :D

Yes , it was a very fun time. Had good time on the trip to the range, fine conversation, seen several deer, flock of turkeys, and when we got close to the range, which is near a widlife area there were hundreds of ducks of various species out in the flooded corn and wooded areas.

I discovered my shooting skills are quite pale compared to these other fellows. Ringing that gong at 100 yds with iron sights standing up on their hind feet no less. The only thing I could hit it with was my EBR with 4x on it from a supported position. I'm going to blame it on my 57 yr old eyes, and lack of sufficient pratice.

The day was chilly but once the shooting started you didn't really notice. The only thing that got cold for me was my hands, when we took a coffee break I put on my heavy insulated gloves, did the shooting wearing brown jerseys.

The downers of the day for me was after running the first and only 10 shot mag through my Marlin M9 carbine found the stock had cracked at the rear of the receiver and ran down into the pistol grip. :x Then the scope mount on my EBR (modified SKS) shot loose sometime during the rapid fire from hip shooting, and I couldn't hit anything after that even though I tightened it back down. So most of my shooting was with the .22 rifles and my .44 M29.

Still had a very good day. My thanks goes out to OI for having us as his guest and providing plenty of hot water for coffee and tea, and I will also say he is quite talented in BREAD making , he brought some homemade spice bread that was outstanding. And my thanks to JReed for driving this old feller to and from the meet. I'm looking forward to the next meet.

I think car pooling worked well for both of us. It was nice to have the company.
As to off hand with irons I have had lots of practice at it at longer ranges. Next time I will show you some tricks that make it easier to be accurate when standing.
