Some long range levergun success
Getting into casting as I have a little more time since being retired. Clip on wheel weights, RCBS 45-500 BPS bullet, dropped into cold water. Then powder coated with Harbor Freight red powder, baked for ten minutes in a toaster oven to melt the powder. The 400 degrees annealed the bullets back to p...

Re: What to do with a new "old" gun as far as maintenance?
As complicated as a 92 is, I would only remove the buttstock to keep from ruining the finish/patina and hose down the internals with a good penetrating oil/cleaner, while working the action, let it drip dry and follow with a little light oil. Maybe clean the magazine tube inside. Try to keep the cle...

Another big thumbs up for Gary Reeder. I sent him a Blackhawk 45 Colt that wouldn't keep them on an 8" pie plate. He re bored a used 357 cylinder that matched the somewhat worn finish on my gun to 45 Colt, held the throats to .4515, recut the forcing cone to 11degrees and sent me back a test ta...

Hawkins, slug your bore, try for a thousandth over bore diameter, lube with alox/Johnson's one step floor wax 50/50 with a lyman #2 alloy or clip on wheel weights. Plain base should be okay at those velocities. Casting is a whole nuther hobby. By the way, 325 gr @ 1300-1400 fps? How big of an old bo...

Reminds me of the first can I ever bought. About 1966 or so, a can of IMR 3031 cost me $3.75. No price on this 2400.

Tried out powder coating, think it looks promising. Eliminates the need for lube on bullets, some say you can approach jacketed bullet velocities (don't know). First try on RCBS 45-500 bullets in the 45-70. My Shilo 1874 is sighted in with this bullet lubed with alox/Johnson's liquid floor shine (50...
