When I was a kid, my dad and I wanted to try caviar. Not knowing where to get real caviar, we used crappie roe. And, since we didn't know how to prepare it, we just battered it up with the rest of the fish and fried it. Of course the fish were great, but the "caviar" was pretty nasty. :D ...

Never had that problem hunting public land in Vermont.

Everyone's taxes and license fees pay for that land, so as far as I'm concerned, he who gets into the woods first has his pick of spots.

I drove through Missouri once a few years ago and it looked nice. I can't say it's my first choice for a new place to live, but the job looks potentially cool. Of course, I'm kinda putting my cart before the horse since I just got to the first round of interviews.

I'm looking to design a test intended to simulate a textbook ideal hit to the broadside of an adult male whitetail deer. The model will consist of hide, bone, and ballistics gel. I just need to know how thick to make it. I'm thinking 20" total will do. Thoughts?

The 200 grain Hornady round nose loads were nice and accurate, as were the 200 grain CP from the .357. The CP didn't do so well accuracy wise from the .35 rem, though. I guess the extra .001" really can make a difference.

Some of the stands where I hunt, I may consider heavy buckshot. In a lot of northeast kingdom cedar swamps, if you have a clear view of a deer it won't be more than 15 yards and not for very long.

BPI makes 0000 buckshot that I'm itching to try.

Can you guess I'm not one for long range work :D

Why are there no reasonably priced

Light centerfire leverguns in production? And by light I mean low pressure smaller bore. Things along the lines of the 32-20 and 25-20. I'd love to have a Marlin in 25-20, but all the ones I see on gunbroker are pretty pricey.

I worked up to 13 grains of Lil gun and that gave me a shade over 1500 f/s at the muzzle. I don't see a need to push them any more.
