Yep, Check for shorts. Another likely spot is anyplace the wiring goes through a metal panel (firewall) grommets wear out, insulation rubs thin, hard to spot sometimes.

Field Day June 23-24. I recommend a dual band hand held for your first radio. Then get on the air and don't be afraid to start a conversation. Get in with the local club or at very least drive around on Field Day and look for antennas. Work the airwaves on Field Day from as many stations as possible...

Put a gold dot front sight on one.
Reversed the rear blade and put reflective (glow-in-the-dark) dots and opened up the slot.

If you are contemplating it as training for the 44, I would suggest that you use a revolver with the same number of holes in the cylinder.
You don't want that nasty critter coming on you as you are expecting more bangs coming from your only means of defense.
