Re: 45 Colt Tree Cutters
I shot down a couple of tangled sycamores 12" in diameter which were bowed under a huge storm-felled willow tree in the woods - all hanging over our favorite walking path. The 12" trees were both bowed horizontal about 10 feet above the ground, so there was so much strain I wasn't going an...

As THE Cowboy .45 Special guy, I can assure you that YES, folks modify their rifles to run .44 Russian. Marlins can be done by Gary Blansett, spur45@macomb.com, and 66 and 73 rifles can be made to shoot .44 Russian by using my Cowboy .45 Special carrier. Ya do have to mind OAL a tad, (ya can't use ...

Re: Is there a .44 'Cowboy' like the .45 one?
But the .44 Russian is enough shorter than the .44 Magnum (or .44 Special) that I think it would add magazine capacity and maybe shorten lever throw, which is what the .45 Cowboy round does vs. the .45 Colt. The .44 Russian case length is .970" and the .45 Cowboy is .897" vs. the .44 Mag a...

We're lucky in that an ox-bow of river, flood plains, and so forth pretty much isolates us even though we don't have a huge place. Yes. 25, 50, 75, & 100 yard range about 200 yards from the back door. Lots of sacrifices in other areas of our lives to keep the homestead, but the range is part of the appeal. There is another area owned by family where we could shoot safely about 500 or so yards, but we've not gotten around to...

After trying to figure out why I don't mind high see-through scope mounts, and other shooters want as low a mount as possible, I realized that I seldom "cheek weld" except if shooting off a bench. When sitting or standing, I tend to place the side of my jaw against the buttstock, rather th...

I don't think the rifle would stand the stress of actual use. A machete might be a better choice if it came to that.
