Disappointing 38/40 article in "Handloader"
The first 10mm magnum -- our fine 38WCF or 38/40 -- has plenty of fans on this forum, and this article looked promising: HandloaderDec22.jpg Handloader1222article.jpg So our author starts out by conceding that the 38/40 has some challenges in loading, but what he considers "challenging" is...

My bride of 50 years wimped out on me a few years ago and no longer will come along wood cutting. But she was still helping me when I'm running the log splitter until last month when she ruptured a disc (wasn't the firewood that got her -- it was a dang heavy mattress off one of the beds). Got a fee...

Back in ancient days when I was shooting handguns a lot I killed a couple elk and a deer with the Ruger Redhawk, 7 1/2" bbl. I thought that gun was so close to perfect I bought a second to have on hand for when I wore out the first one. Haven't wore out the first one so have two of those "...

Remembering back through the fog of time I'm afraid I overstated my little Thumler's longevity in my care. I've become fond of the "spray-on" method of case lubing, but my home-made stuff leaves things a little juicier than I like so when I do a good wad of them I like to wash off the cases. So a few minutes ago I piled a bunch of 38/40's I just resized into the tumbler barrel and got her going...

With ghost ring, and a dab of neon green or orange you can forget trying to center anything. Look thru the ring, and use a six o'clock hold. I do as well with that as a 4 MOA Red Dot. Good job there Nath: the "pesky critters" surely don't need a full-power red deer-killing load. But for affordable shooting you need to get a mould and cast some bullets for that 30/30. One of my favorite 30/30 loads is a 117 grain 32/20 bullet pushed by 8 to 10 grains of Green Dot (or Uni...

That length of cartridge would work OK through the action of my Rossi -- with the Rossi 1.70 is about max: you'll just have to see how this fits through the m92. I like Unique for nice moderate velocity loads and the H110 for maximizing velocities. I don't have experience with the Norma powders.
