I need to get that Stroebel sights book so I can look this stuff up. I wonder if the Madis Winchester sight book might have that oddity in it somwhere. The sight by itself, if authentic, I would imagine would go $1500 or so. Not for its utility ... rather for its blatant audacity. In the interest of...

Thanks. I will head to Amazon. The moniker is a tribute to my wife who counted my Diamondback 22's at one point and declared me unstable. Fortunately, she didn't count all of 5mm Remington and other stuff in the safe. I have a Turnbull gun and I'm curious about some of the processes. I will post som...

Perhaps I am a complete idiot, but I went to Books-a-Million and went to the GunDigest online site and I can't find any reference to the 2008 annual. How does one obtain this item OR do you guys just have them now because you have regular subscriptions?

Also notice that its not a real factory letter either. How about the letter with the 1886 he's listed? http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=80044821 Is this one any better? I notice that for some reason it seems to be to a "Antique Restoration". Also, the letter mentions the...

The same guy is selling an 1886 with the same sight as well. If it's really an original Winchester sight, I wonder how much of the price of the gun is actually the sight itself.

Anyone ever seen one of these?

I like express sights and all but whoa ... I wonder how far out it's regulated for the .44-40?

If they are tritium based, they will glow always ... until the tritium decays too far of course. I'm not sure what the total life of the sights are ... but I believe the half life of tritium is about 12 years. I would bet the sights would be good for 20 years easy ... just glowing away.

It is alleged (by my wife) that I may be in possession of too many rimfires (Diamondback 22s, various 22 mags, 5mm Rem, etc). This is, of course, not possible. It's like saying I have too many Winchester 71's ... which most of you will immediately recognize is also not possible.

That's a great set of pics. I had always heard that WLR were the hottest but the Remington's certainly look like the current king.

The austenitic stainless alloys (300 series) are non-magnetic. The martensitic alloys (400 series) are the ones that ARE magnetic. The 400's are probably used in firearms for their strength. The 300's have better corrosion resistance at the expense of some strength ... hence their use more for cookw...

Fantastic. I assume this was the .035" jacket. Is this the same 50AK that Mike in Oregon sent you recently? The WWG that you posted the pictures of?

Looks over-buffed and in-the-white to me. I can't imagine how long you'd have to work it to dish out the screw holes like that.
