Thanks for the knowledgeable replies. I'm learning a bunch from you. I'm starting to appreciate the differences from the old steel to new aluminum versions. I love lever actions. Rebarrel a BLR?

If anyone has any information on how to do this, I would really appreciate it. I could have 4 bolt actions re-barreled for the prices I have been quoted, by the very, very few gunsmiths that will do this. I have searched the internet without any luck at all. I have heard that for the newer BLR's, th...

I would love levers with 24" to 26" barrels readily available, in blued and walnut. Anyone with a hacksaw can make a barrel shorter, but it's sure tough to stretch them.

I would love the Winchester 71 configuration with more calibers available, like the .33 Winchester.

Buck Elliott-New Lever Design

Is there somewhere in the archives, where you have discussed in some detail your levergun design? Is it based on the '86? Completely new?

Would love to hear some details, or read where you have posted before.

Thanks much, Brett

A Winchester or Marlin carbine is pure perfection in it's handling, size, weight and especially aesthetics. They are touch stones with our past; to a simpler world, where values like honesty and integrity, if not lived, were at least given lip service. When I carry my 1949 Marlin 336RC in .32 Specia...

Browning '86 with early Winchester pistol grip, shotgun buttplate, tapered octagon 24" barrel, 2/3's magazine, CCH, very, very nice walnut and checkering, in .50-110. Or a Browning 92 with all the above, except a button magazine, in .45 Colt. I chose Browning/Miroku for the very reason I would ...

Probably my Browning 71 at first, then one or all of these four...Three early 336A's. (Two in .35 Remington and one in .30-30.) Or a 1949 336RC in .32 Special. Rarely see 99's and if you do they are way over priced. Like $850 for something that looks like it was buried underground. Marlins not very often...336's run about $400. Winchesters are always high. Post 64, $600 and pre-64 several hundred more.

A little fancy for me, but I like BLR's where many here don't. The only wish I have for BLR's are the option for longer barrels. They are just a little muzzle light for me.

My dad has owned one since 1973 and it has accounted for at least 1500 gophers and has had an estimated 20,000 rounds through it. Figure 100 gophers a summer on the ranch since then and my 1500 estimate is low. Never a single jam or hiccup and it's accurate.

Joe, if we all followed you, no one would own anything more than a bolt action in .30-06. But, it sure is fun to own and shoot various rifle actions and calibers.

I've never been a .338 fan in spite of it's many virtues, but for many this will probably be a great caliber.
