Broke Back Mountain Cowboy

It’s a cold and dreary day, by Texas standards, so I donned my Carhart barn jacket and felt hat and went down to vote. A young man was standing at the 100 foot mark and he had a black felt hat on too. He was electioneering and asked whether I was voting in the Republican primary. I said that I was a...

Whatever the source, I don’t like it because people are not behaving in a civilized fashion that we have come to expect in our society. We are seeing more and more of this in urban crime but that’s only the most obvious. It’s much deeper and more widespread.

Re: From the old Sixgunner.Com Archives

Imagine what a shocking event it was for Smith & Wesson and Remington to release a sixgun and cartridge rated for a 158 gr bullet at 1500 fps! Of course the 7.63 Mauser clocked 1450 fps, but it was mighty uncommon here and was only available in a FMJ military style loading. The .357 was a major ...

Re: From the old Sixgunner.Com Archives

I used a 357 carbine for most hunting for a few years due to some physical restrictions at the time. I was loading down 158 grain bullets to 1300-1400fps , technically still revolver power and took all size hogs. Killed a few smaller ones broadside with the 125grain remington UMC 38+P factory round...

Not to Paco levels, but certainly closer to what the .357 was meant to be.

In my guns, this load gives a bit more than the Hornady manual velocity.

FA 97 4 1/4 inches averages 1374

FA97 7.5 inches averages 1435

S&W 686 4 inch averages 1343

Marlin 20 inch averages 1767

Re: Short cases (.357)

The other thing to take into consideration is that your loads may not need to be crimped if your brass has a firm grip on your bullets. If you load your cylinder full, fire five and then inspect the sixth round for bullet movement, you may find that there's no need to crimp any of your rounds and i...
