OI, I think if you check more closely you'll find that your "copper" ground rod is in fact steel with a copper coating. With this lead ban has anyone thought of using Zinc? I talked to a fellow here at one of our ranges 20 years ago that was going to be making zinc bullets. Rusty <><

I don't think you would hurt the sprue plate. I've cast bullets from pure or almost pure antimony and I never hurt one. I don't think the silver would be any harder than that.

What is the melting temp for silver?

It might sound silly but why not put a recoil pad on it. Personally I've always liked the feel of the non slip rubber on my shoulder rather than the slick plastic.
