Single digits in Texas? Yikes. Our high on Sunday is supposed to be -2 with a low near -20, but that's actually kind of warm for South Dakota in Feb.

You guys take care. That ice is nothing to underestimate.

It's been many years since I took a 94 apart so I'm a little fuzzy on the details. Fitting a barrel blank to a levergun is much more than just shortening, crowning and chambering. Is there a clearance cut underneath the barrel the 1/3 or so towards the chamber end? The magazine also hangs off the ba...

The short half of my favorite combo is a .45. The .45 is good from pocket gophers to people to large game (close in). The small game it just pokes a half inch hole through and you can eat right up to it. Larger stuff it just pokes a half inch . . . well you get the idea. The longer half varies more....

Re: Would it be possible...

Yes, but the re-barreling is the easy part. The firing pin hits in the wrong spot so the locking block has to be re-modeled. Often the firing pin channel is drilled out completely and then a plug is soldered in. Then a new channel is made. Easy to describe, not so easy to do.

Good luck.

Doc, It's been years since I read it, but if I recall correctly from ignition to bullet exit for a .45 ball is in the hundred thousandths of a second. Like seven or somethin. Not sure. GI 7.62 is slower than our .308, so probably more like 2,500 fps. Thus angular rotation would be tiny. Or even less...
