Re: What if's/your next possible purchase?

I have a Marlin 1894C on layaway, so I am committed to that one. I just paid out a layaway, which was an Airlite J-frame snubby, but switched to a 5" limited-run Ruger GP100. Otherwise, I want to avoid more firearms purchases for a while. Recent vet bills hit me hard, and we lost the whole litt...

I work for the "other" big city in Texas, and despite our size, we seem to largely fit the mold of the rural peace officer, as described by other posts in this thread. We see Dallas as the city that wants to think they are the Texas version of NYC or Boston, and treats the rest of Texas li...

This book is indeed a good read. I was fortunate to meet Jim Cirillo at the Snubby Summit in 2005, where his contribution was classroom lecture. I had hoped to train with him in live-fire, but unfortunately, his fatal collision cut his life short. Jim Cirillo did indeed favor the M1 Carbine over the...

I picked up one of these puppies Monday. I was already working on a layaway at this dealer, so didn't have to cough up the whole price; I had them return the original layaway to stock, and used the credit toward this one. Here is the link, which will soon be removed, and I will try to post a dealer'...

Autoloaders that shoot anything bigger than .223/5.56 are heavy, and I am frail in one knee, and in my support arm/shoulder. If I grab one rifle in a bad time, that requires me to be on the move, it will be a BLR chambered in .308 Winchester. I have several of them. I could even carry one, and stash...

A Lightning BLR has a rounded semi-pistol grip stock styled like the Browning Lightning shotguns. The first BLR I bought, in early 1997, is a short-action Lightning, in 308. I love it!

Keep in mind that really good, talented, old-school gunsmiths will MAKE parts for out-of-production guns, as necessary. Many "gunsmiths" in gunshops today are really parts-changers or armorers, more so than true gunsmiths.

Re: OT - Is the .32 Mag REALLY a good Defensive Gun?

I have used the .357 Magnum, with devastating effect, for defense. When I first started policin', though, in 1984, I was a disciple of Col. Cooper and other believers in big bores, so I mostly carried .41 and up, through most of the 1980's, up to 1993. (mostly .41 mag and .45 ACP) By the '90's, thou...

One thing about the current BLRs that I like, is that the top round in the magazine is aimed at the chamber when the bolt is back. All else being equal, this is an indication of reliable feeding. I so liked the smooth feeding and reliability of my first one, a 1997 Lightning, that when Browning rele...

My recent Mirokuchester '92 Trapper in .45 Colt was a cantankerous, finicky feeder, so I parted with it. My one BLR that has been fired much, a 1997-era Lightning, feeds 100% reliably. My wife's Rossi '92, made in the late 1990's, is a slick, reliable feeder. My Marlins are too new to tell, and are ...
