Re: Myth of the .357 Mag Not Benefiting from a Barrel Longer Than 16”
Griff, glad to see you join the QL family, you will not regret it, especially with some of the more esoteric cartridges that you load for. I am very glad that COSteve is back, and it goes without saying that longer barrels make more velocity, but the difference with the slower burning pistol powders...

Hey Doug, I may be experiencing dementia but I thought once upon a time we privately talked Harley's too. But I could very well be wrong as I have come, gone forever, and come back here finally. Hi Jim, I got notice I think only shortly after you by text, which is probably exceedingly rare. Interesting set-up, would work great for hunting. I don't know if he really needed the 1 MOA dot sight for the ranges he will probably be using it at but as long as it's bright enough, it would do nicely and still have some long range accuracy as well. A $2000 dollar price increase which amounts to about a 164% price increase on top of the previous $3100 price seems too high to me if I can still do basic math. Doc, the 408 Chey Tac and it's "balanced bullet technology" was "da bomb" when it came out, but has long been superseded by other cartridges, most notably perhaps the 416 Barret. If your going to take out a loan to buy a rifle, I would look at the 416 B. The 375 Chey Tac also cam...

Walt, thanks for that. That does sound like a really easy conversion for the Redhawk. I think I would have started with a 284 Win case, straightened it, cut it off at 1.8 inches and put a .458 or .452 bullet in it. It would work in either a bolt or lever gun, and probably had better ballistics. A .452 bullet would offer all sorts of light to heavy bullets including 200 grain bullets....
