I think the mag is not detachable except for the follower like Henrys. The fancy one is $3500, not the tactical looking one. It is a Marlin 1894 clone like the Ruger and the Henry. It’s a me too gun but looks like a well done one. Competition is good, especially in leverguns. Now the new Ruger LC in...

I don’t know if the short cartridges will ruin your chamber trope come from corrosive priming days or what, but I haven’t found it to be a problem in 45 Colt, 44 mag, 357 mag, or 22 LR. Plain old LRN UMC rounds in 38 and 44 specials did surprising well in Gun Sam’s gel tests. They didn’t really over penetrate either. I have seen him shoot a fmj 38 clean through two blocks though. Same with 40 but less surprising. I do prefer HPs for defense though. Didn’t someone here say 45 acp RN...

I want a smaller 44 double action myself. Special would be fine. A medium magnum like the S&W 69 would be very nice too. But for the price I could buy a 44 Bulldog and a 40 Pitbull and a holster to fit either. The action on my Undercover is way smoother than my 642, it is a smaller gun too. Doc,...

I feel ok with a five shot 38 even doing high value transactions. I feel well protected with a six shot 45acp revolver and five shot 12 gauge at home. A 1911 with eight 45s and a spare mag is exceptionally well heeled to me.

So, my .22 leveraction growing up was a Marlin Model 39, so please excuse my ignorance. Weren't the Erma, Rossi, and Henry's all derived from the Browning .22 leveractions? I don’t think so. Try them. It’s not like they are premium bullets. If you start getting misfires or especially hang fires or squibs, pull the bullets. You may want to cull some brass afterwards either way if there is significant corrosion.

I never understood the 41 magnum as anything more than a pride project. The guns were as big as 44s and 45s so no size or weight savings. The 44mag covers all its magnum capabilities and surpasses it on the heavy end. It kicks much harder than 357 and not much less than 44 magnum. I agree the police...

Yes I agree a 45 doesn’t have to get bigger to kill. I meant if the round nose could deform just a bit so that is blunt but penetration is still there. It may not matter. If the roundnose is cast soft, will the bullet expand a bit to mitigate the difference? Seems roundish soft lead bullets were the norm for a few hundred years and slew all matters of critters.

No, just trimmed magnum cases. Their handloading manual tells exactly where to trim to. Honestly with the likes of 444, 44, 357 etc, one seems to gain nothing of consequence using the pointy bullets. It’s not worth the effort of trimming and sequestering those cases. For example the 265 grain .429 H...
