Re: Adjusting Windage On Fixed Sight Vaquero

I hate to admit it but here goes, I have a 44 bisley vaquero that shot about 3 inches left of center at 20 yards and was told that it was considered within acceptable tolerance. It wasn't for me so I took a set of hard wood blocks and drilled a hole that was the same size as my barrel. I needed to t...

Re: Issue with Burris Mini Mag 4x scope

I have a short mag 4X that I had on a 338 Mag that worked out great and shot good to the 400 yard mark. I then put a 3/9 Burris fullfeild with ballistic plex on the 338 and put the short mag on my 12ga slug gun. It walked all over the place and I had to tighten the mounts down more than I would of l...

Re: Small and Tender

Good shooting.Easy to drag too. I to use the cowboy and it is a keeper I have thought of trying Ranch Dogs mould it sure looks to work ok without expansion.I doubt you could stop that bullet in any deer within 125 yards from any angle. I wish he made a 300 gr bullet I guess I would of been a 45/90 m...

Re: 1895CB Reloads

I load Nosler 300 grain Partitions over a heavy load of Reloader 7 for 2160fps in my cowboy for larger game. Also load the Speer 300 gr unicore over 50 grains of Reloader 7 for a deer load never checked fps but the deer don't out run it. I have never recovered a 300 gr bullet so see no reason to sub...

Re: Opinions needed- Bad Bore ?

I agree that it could be bored to a larger cal don't rule out 38-55 if it would remove the ring. Also I think a good liner job will not show in the barrel and you could put it back better than new in original 32-40 if unable to locate a replacement barrel. I imagine a liner really hurts collector va...

Re: I like my Cowboys more each year.(long)

To answer the when did coyote come to CT question.I had a flock of sheep growing up and the only issues we had were tramp dogs.Around 1977 I had left home but still had sheep on both my Dad and my Grandfathers places. One day my dad told me he was awaken by a noise he couldn't identify and looked ou...

Re: Built a fire tonight

I put in a Jotul fireplace insert with the chimney liner this year when they told me that my monthly oil budget would be 419,00. I live in a small older house and I convinced my wife that by burning wood we could use the money for college bills for my middle son. I really enjoy the warmth and the fa...

http://i122.photobucket.com/albums/o243/wellesfarm/2008003.jpg I was blessed to have been raised by a man who appreciated fine rifles. I have also had the opportunity to use many different types and calibers and because of my family owning land up until I was in my thirties in CT were I live I had ...

I shot my first deer at 20 years old with a Thompson Center Hawkin 50 cal. It was a 42 lb doe and I shot her while I still hunted through a valley. My first cap went off but the charge didn't so I eased another cap on. I never realized how small she wasuntil I walked up to her. I felt kind of foolish...

Your hinge pin is worn and it has caused the barrel to loosen. A gunsmith can ream it out for a slightly oversized pin and make it as good as new. Some old timers will take a center punch and work their way around the curve of the hinge on both sides until it tightened it. I think if you can close t...

I only have 5 acres, so I can't call myself a farmer. I raise about 10 sheep a year and a few hogs. Also have a flock of hens. I could not afford to farm in CT. But one thing thats hard to find here is a clean honest slaughter house. Also if you could raise and sell specialty meats You may do ok. If...

A problem I always have is focusing on the target and sights. Jumping back and forth.
My Father had a friend that shot for the Navy and he said to focus on the sights only and let the target blur. What a difference it made for me.

Mike, I practice with the bulk rem 300 and hunt with Nosler or Speer 300 gr. The Rem load shoots within 2 inches at 100 and I leave it sighted for the Noslers.

I put the same scope on my 1895CB and have had good results hunting. I may go back to the tang sight for plinking but I get much better results in low light(woods) with a scope and I feel like its more ethical for someone with eyesight like mine to use a scope. I do miss the days when I could take a...

Check out a Burris 4x short mag it is small gathers light and tough and has a good eye relief (I had one on a 338 WM for a while until I traded for a 3/9x burris. By the way my groups shot at 400 yards are not more than a few inches smaller with9x than 4x and I wonder if the scope will last as long ...
