I've had several firearms shipped Priority Mail that took 2-3 weeks to deliver. Had a handgun shipped by FFL took two weeks.
Each time tracking stopped at a location along the way ,then out of the blue it was delivered.

They must be good buisness for them, I talked to Sarah Turnbull couple months ago and they no longer accept customer pre polished parts .
They only do full restoration and these custom factory redo rifles .

Arrow points to the no standard surfaces , the bolts forward slot is angled back about 1/16" ,the locking bolts front mating surface has same angle machined to match.

No the Chiappa and Uberti both use modern hot dip bluing and cyanide type color case hardening. Not original.

You say don't consider finish ? Thats pretty much main reason to buy the Turnbull rifle. As its how the 1886 would have looked originally with exact period finishes at a fraction of the cost of an original in same condition. Also I think he offers all of the original calibers. There is a cam pinned to the lever shelf on left side,this is what lever spring rides against. The last little bit before lever closes the spring tension is felt. Be sure to ask if the liners are black powder rated only ?

John Taylor uses the best liners out there made by TJ's and are hammer forged chromoly. You use smokeless or black powder .

My 1902 30 WCF has the slotted guide no spring as well.
I find it interesting Pirkle's book on the 1894 shows four different guides labeled by caliber.

Yes it would, your 38-55 should have the cartridge guide with slot like in my picture . What I'm trying to confirm is did 30 WCF and 32-40 also use that same guide during antique years. Are you worried about possibility of a ruined barrel?
I've got a 32 WS been wanting to take to 38-55

If you ask any of the re-borers the 1894 nickel steel can be tough to rebore .liner probably safer but would rather have rebore.

Anybody that has an original antique 1894 especially in 30 WCF take a picture of possible of the cartridge guides .Second models with internal screw.

Was talking with Bert H. and he seems to think all antique second models had same cartridge guide. But I thought they were different myself.

Those older barrels 1873,1876 etc. Were at the beginnings of steel production at Winchester . Merely just a low carbon mild steel that's why they are softer. Just for grins and giggles I lightly polished a spot on a piece of scrap 1873 barrel from 1888. And an 1892 barrel from WW1 era 1917 app. The 1873 barrel is near dead soft app.at 13 - 15 RC as its below minimum scale reading. The 1892 barrel is around 20 -22 RC. I noticed you said welded the lower tang ,what filler did you use ? I've used 4130 tig on 1892 tangs worked fine.
The 1876 lever as You can see was broken at the cam shoulder. Hoping to save it by welding.
It was originally color case hardened ,probably temper the weld zone back some .

Looking back at this old CADA Gun Journal from 1994, cover shot two mint condition 1873 rifles .Thought the photo was pretty cool.I remember seeing rifles like these Ocassionally at shows year ago but pretty rare in that condition.

Thanks , it was satisfying to bring it back .Probably one of dirtiest firearms I've personally worked on . Dead spiders and 140 years of crud . It was no more than a tool during its life . Mainly just a wall hanger to me but It will live again.

Yeah I talked to Bob over at Winchester barrels a while back ,looks like a good option . But I keep leaning toward having Lilga Barrels make me a heavy and I 'll just do machine work myself.. Parts are so limited and most not in good shape so my goal is to make every part from modern steel .
