These rifles are great shooters but just not that user friendly on maintenance.And probably dirtiest shooting rimfire out there. I knew it was probably bad but Dad kept the outside and bore spotless .Soon as I dropped FCG my jaw dropped.

This is a blowback automatic so any waste just blows right into receiver and barrel extension . A true testament of the design that it still functioned. Amazing how slick it is now. Range report next week hopefully.

It still functioned although it would fire two and three round bursts at full automatic fire every tube full.And your never new when.Dad passed away in 2006 ,its been hiding in back of the safe ever since. Last time I used it was back in the 80's.

Finally got it spit shined today ,what a project to get all that fouling ,filler,copper,lead,brass flecks out. No way to clean these without pulling barrel assembly .

Winchester 1906 boys rifle

Had the 1906 out for quick 10 round group at 25 yards.
This one has an excellent bore and still shoots good.
This was a super clean rifle , what finish is left is bright.
The experimental low temp nitre blue on barrelwas a flop as most just wiped off.

No ,only have the LR cylinder .I suppose I could send it in for 22 WMR cylinder fit. It was a good price but the barrel issue was a surprise.

Off hand at 20 yrds Fiocchi 22 LR performance ammo Printing high but decent group for offhand. Didbt bother adjusting sights as I don't know which ammo yet I plan to run . I don't hunt anymore so probably will be target ammo. Somebody hacksawed the barrel on this one .I got it cheap a few years back...

Yeah it will drift over but original sights are plentiful and fairly cheap .I think Ill try to find a straight one first so I can keep sights centered. If all else fails I tweek this one a little.

Had the 62A out today, fired this 10 round group at 25 yrd s with Fiocchi 22 LR. Groups printed to right with sights centered . I believe the rear sight being stamped is canted to the right. Group shot kneeling with improvised rest.

Remembering my Dad today , Grandad , uncles ,and extended family that have served and passed on .
Thanks to all that have served past and present.

Dad died of pancreatic cancer at 59 ,feel sure was attributed to agent orange in Vietnam . he's been gone 16 years now sure miss him.

Thanks , I've always wanted one but the stars never aligned until now. The little pump are what called short throw action The cycle distance is half of Winchesters 61.
The barrel has same dimensions as the 1890 .

.22 WRF has a larger bullet diameter than .22 WMR
WRF .228 VS .224 WMR IIRC the rim is substantially larger on WRF 1/16" or so.I'll pull some and check tomorrow.

CCI ammo is for rifles only according to website.

CCI has all .22 varients in stock some are limit of 10 boxes.

I lucked out on a really clean 1906 with a perfect bore several years ago.Pretty hard to find.
My 1890 in 22 WRF not so much ,its pitted with worn rifling.but still capable of hunting accuracy at 25 yards.

You can see the gap at the barrel shoulder in the as receiver state. I could get .010 feeler gage under it. You can also see the image of the octagon barrel as it clanked against receiver face. I made a dome shaped brass punch to remove the taper pin.It comes out on the left side where Savage trademark is. Be careful when tapping on it as the metal is thin around the slide mortise. Me too, always wanted a model 29 but never knew of the problems these can have. Not only can they suffer from loose barrels but many have damaged locking lugs from shooting high velocity ammo. Luckily this one is good on the lugs. Savage claim on these was short throw action , plus the cheaper price...

RIA and Morphys auctioned last year IIRC John Ulrich 1866 rifles .One went for over $54K the other was around $28k
