Re: Henry Big Boy issues

It's been a while since I posted any followup on this subject, so I figured I would give a progress report. Back in mid August I picked up 3 - 50 rnd boxes of Winchester super-x 158grn, a couple of boxes of Norma Hexagon match grade 180 grn, and some Sig Sauer 125 grn. A pretty good variety of 357 m...

Re: DOH !!!

Well, I finally finished the case, and 5 coats of Plasti Dip later, I think the crisis is averted. Going to the range today to get my Tikka sighted in, and see how the Henry does with the TriggerShims I put on the lever. Feels real nice without the slop in it.

Re: Vortex optics

I have a Vortex Diamondback Tactical 4-12x40 I just mounted on my Tikka T3X in 243. Haven't been to the range yet, but optics look good on the Biden sign 1/4 mile down the road  Saw a lot of good reviews for them (scopes).

DOH !!!

So I bought an Apache gun case from Harbor freight for 2 of my rifles. I spent several hours watching youtube videos on ways to cut foam and how to spray it with Plasti Dip to make the foam more durable and firm. So I carefully traced out my guns and cut them out. Then sprayed the foam adhesive on t...

Re: NRA Lawsuit in New York

I recently re-joined a local gun club with a fantastic outdoor facility. When I originally joined about 15 years ago, they required NRA membership. When re-joining this year, I was told that membership to any national gun advocacy organization was acceptable. Reason being is because in recent years,...

Re: Henry Big Boy issues

Red dots don't work to good for me, I have astigmatism. I went back out today to finish sighting in my dad's mini 14. I put a 3-9x40 scope on it for him. On the way out I stopped at WallyWorld and grabbed a Simmons spotting scope (20-60 power) so I could see where I was hitting on the target. I coul...

Re: Henry Big Boy issues

Well, I finally found some 357 mag ammo. I picked up a 50 rnd box of Fiocchi 158gr CMJ. Absolutely no issues. I have 10 more rounds of the Magtech, but didn't want to chance it. The day after the first time shooting, I did a complete break down of the gun and this is what I found....First off, it's ...

Re: Henry Big Boy issues

I haven't cleaned it yet, no. But I started out with the 357's. I figured if I started with the 38 rounds, I'd get a carbon buildup and the longer 357's might get a little sticky in there from the shorter rounds. Hoping it's just an ammo thing, not looking forward to sending it back in todays enviro...

Re: Henry Big Boy issues

Sounds ammo related to me. I agree it sounds ammo to me. Look at that 357 brass, I bet it is swelled towards the base. The 38 special being lower pressure won't stick like hot stuff. As for the action feeling gritty it's possible that your trying to make if work could have raised a burr but I doubt...

Henry Big Boy issues

Well, I finally got to shoot the Big Boy .357/38 today for the first time since I brought it home 3 weeks ago. My elation lasted about 30 rounds. I started with the MagTech .357 rounds. It wasn't too bad, although I wouldn't say it was smooth as butter racking it. But I figured it would smoot...

Re: 1858 New Army bummer

Agreed. In simplest terms, it's probably best to shoot it as intended. Any conversions I've found cost more than the gun itself. If so needed, I guess I just need to buy another gun. I hate it when that happens  Thanks

Re: 1858 New Army bummer

Why not use a really light load of 2 or 3F in the 44 mag loads? :? :? Due to my limited knowledge regarding cap and ball guns, this comment sorta confuses me. Does this gun, with the conversion cylinder, not use a .45 colt cartridge. From what I do know, my concerns are that they do not recommend u...

Re: 1858 New Army bummer

Shooting a cap and ball revolver versus a cartridge gun is kind of like walking versus driving. It takes longer but you will find that the slower pace gives you time to observe more, learn more, and enjoy the process more. You may find yourself RELAXING more than usual. 'Shooting' isn't just the pa...

1858 New Army bummer

So years ago, I bought a Traditions Pietta 1858 New Army .44. The two looked nice together, like peanut butter and jelly. When I first got it...

Re: My first wooden bucket

If I figer coreckly, 16 pieces(sides), the edge cut angle would be 11 1/4 Degrees. 360 degrees divided by 16 pieces comes to 22.5 degrees. each piece has 2 edges so divide that by two. 11.25 degrees.

Hello all. After a 10 year hiatus, I've finally managed to start rebuilding my gun collection after having to sell off all but a couple of my hand guns.
