Re: 1873 in .44 Special
It shoots as good as it looks. This is a Uberti 1873 US Marshal IT (Indian Territory) carbine in .44 Special. It actually appears to be chambered in .44 Magnum. Favorite load thus far is 16 gr of 2400 under a 240 grain flat point cast bullet. I imagine that is fairly close to .44-40 ballistics. Hi ...

I left the shooting game for about a decade and got back into it needing something low abuse, low noise and low cost. Its cowboy 240gn lead LFN, says 750fps on the box. Will try it out in a lever action. Any ideas on what velocity it might get out a 20" 44rem mag lever? Also the lead seems pretty soft cast, is there likely to be any expansion on stuff if the lever pushes the velocity up a little?

Old savage, agree 357 does not need 24" of barrel. For the record with the right heavy charges of slowburners particularly in strong 92 action 357 can keep seeing a few gains to 24". BBTI only tests factory loaded charges meant for pistol barrels. Doc you are correct 1:16 is not that tight...
