Re: Colt 1872 Open Top

I have two 7.5'' that i enjoy. The sights are a bit hard to see one handed at arms length but they run great with black powder. Poi for mine is pretty close with smokeless but around 3 to 4 inches high with black using around 30gr fff and a 200gr bullet. With the sun behind me and blacked out sights...

Re: I’m starting to favor Italian guns

Ive had that happen to a few uberti's and have always been able to smooth face out with diamond paper and keep them shooting. I suspect it has more to with with dry firing and mainspring pressure than the load since i was shooting black only in those days fyi. That 231 load sounds like a nice one.

Re: Why We Don't Have a .41 Keith

Id say the old police loading is pretty much a 41Keith, which does not kick as bad a the 44 fyi. 200gr at 1000fps should kick less than a hot loaded model 25 which is a lighter gun.

Easy 357 mold question

Whats that standard old 158gr swc all the cast bullet companies offer a bulk 500rd box of? Any story or history there? Was it a match winner or gold standard at one time? Never heard any reasoning as to its popularity. Thanks

Ah what a fine example of the pocket gun some say really tamed the west. Sold 10 to 1 against the holster models yet never captured the imagination of grand dad.

Re: From John Taffin - THE RUGER-MARLIN IS HERE!

I predict the marlins will be offered in limited runs like the no. 1 are. I dont think they intend to compete with henry. I also think its a sad state that a laminated stainless guide gun is the predicted money maker of marlins extensive and highly acclaimed past catalog. Heck i was hoping for a new...

Does anyone know if chiappa still makes the 1892 clones? I remember looking at a 44 and 45 a few years back in 24'' sporting version and they were gorgeous.

Re: Most used/useful load

For me its all about the convenience of using the lee dippers. I can make 50rds in 30 minutes in any caliber. You can probably guess my loads. I get 3g or 4.5gr bullseye, 8gr unique, 13gr or 20.7gr of 2400. I do pretty much everything with those 5 dippers and 3 powders except bottleneck rifle and bl...

Hmm, so what i get from that is standard 44 mag load data can be used in a 44wcf as long as its in a 92 or stronger action. Is that right?

Re: anyone use reduced 357 loads?

My 357 target load is meant to mimic my hunting load cheaper and easier. I use a dipper that throws 13gr 2400 in a mag case with mag primer then deep seat a bulk 158gr swc (not a good one) and crimp over the front driving band. I see no change of poi out to 50 yards from my max jhp loads. So its red...

Wonderful rifle! Sorry to hear of you sight woes, I get upset when im over a grand on a rifle, only to find all that quality wasted because the sights are useless. So like the mfg will tell you, ''Good luck you'll get it sighted in!" :D :D

How did henry get so popular?

I've been browsing some distributor websites and have noticed they all got a couple winchester models and a few marlins and then a ton of various henrys available. Lever actions are sort of a niche market now days, it seems odd that a newer player who started out making 22's and borrowing from the h...
