Re: Favorite Fancy Knife
I have used quite a few of their stocks, good stuff. Cost of new vs labor to strip & refinish yours is a no brainer , and you can modify anyway you want! Put one of their thumb holes on a guy's savage slug gun, bedded it, floated it and he tells me it shoots 1 hole groups now! Guess I should do...

Re: Favorite Fancy Knife
I just looked at Boyd's, they have 1895GS stocks, $65, unfinished add another 10 bucks... They make great stocks, just wish they would do custom spec stuff! I really like this idea. I've always liked the feel of the thinner forearm on Winchesters compared to the chubby Marlin forearms. Starting fro...

Re: Favorite Fancy Knife
Camp daddy- if you want your guide gun BLACK, strip it down to bare wood and then apply a wood dye. It will do a better job then stain. Try a wood worker supply house( woodcraft) for the dye. Thanks. Any recommendation for a stripper that will really get in there and really go to work on the origin...

Thanks. I just got a stainless Guide Gun and I've been sitting here wondering how black I can get the wood with stain so that they will all match. Lol!Chuck 100 yd wrote: Very nice pair indeed !

Re: Thinking about .45/.454s...
I shot a .44 for years but after I got my .45 and then a .454 my .44 rarely gets out. I really don't have much use for the power of the .454 but I got a good deal on the gun so I figured, why not. To me the .45 Colt loaded heavy is just about the perfect round for a woods pistol. It offers power on ...

Re: Lead free bullet casting?
I imagine that eventually every state will go down this road. Just like mandatory non toxic shot for waterfowl. It will take much longer as it's not regarding migratory game, but eventually some do-gooder will push it at the federal level and ruin it for everyone.

Re: Lead free bullet casting?
Yep. It's just a matter of time. Truth be told, I actually prefer lead free in my deer rifles and was shooting them long before there were even talks of a lead ban. A 110 grain tsx at 3500 fps is pure poison out of my .270wsm. Just wish they'd give us a break on the calibers that aren't readily avai...

Lead free bullet casting?
With the lead ban here in Ca. getting closer every day with no available bullets (that I have been able to find) I have been thinking of selling my .375 WCF and replacing it with something more load freindly. Today I ran across this lead free bullet casting alloy and was wondering if any of you have...

Re: What's the best movie for Old West gun viewing?
I must admit that I am biased and I tend to like any movie that has a big Sharps rifle in it so a couple of my favorites are, Quigley The Outlaw Josey Wales Young Guns Lonesome dove (my favorite western of all time) I always like when a specific gun gets mention like the Spencer rifle and the Smith ...

That would be a sweet little walking rifle. I have a full sized Sharps and I love it but at around 12 pounds it isn't much fun to hunt with.

Very cool! I just brought home a 1951 John Deere model A project tractor and all of the paint is worn off the belt pulley. If only that tractor could talk. It came out of hill country so I'm guessing it ran a belt powered saw.

Re: Drilling a winchester?
How about I tell you a way to do it, AND preserve the resale value ? While I'm tellin', keep in mind that a replacement bolt for your .375 BB94 is a snap to find & install (I've owned several .375 BB's). First - the XS LeverScout mount rail NEEDS two 6-48 holes D/T'd inline with the bore atop t...

Re: Opions on Henry Golden Boy .22lr
I have one in .22 mag and I love it. It's slim so it carries well in one hand, and it's hefty so it is a nice offhand shooter. My only gripe is that the stock has just a touch too much drop for me, so I have to use a slightly different cheek weld when I aim.

Re: Drilling a winchester?
Thanks guys. For a while I was really into 1903 Springfields and it drove me crazy when I'd run across what would have been a nice rifle if someone hadn't drilled the action full of holes. Even though I'll probably never sell my pre '64 30-30 I'd never drill it.....because that would just be a sin. ...

Same here, but the chambering I'd really like to see would be a 32-20.ving-thorr wrote:if it's an accurate reproduction of the original, and costs less than the ubertis, I believe I may bite. I'd like to see it chambered in .44 special though too, not like the originals were in 44-40 anyway.

1860 Henry soon?
A member over at the Henry rifle forum received an e-mail from a Henry staff member about the possible reproduction of the 1860 Henry chambered in .44-40 later this year. I emailed Mr. Anthony Imperato and he confirmed it. So for all that might be interested, keep your eyes peeled because we may fin...

Drilling a winchester?
I have a '94 big bore in .375 win. and I'd like to install either a rear guide sight or a scout rail on it but it doesn't have any holes that I could use to mount one. Would having it drilled and tapped destroy the resale value of my rifle?

Re: 5020 John Deere w/v-8 engine & BIG BUD
Let's see a pic of your 5020. When I was a kid we had a bunch of the new generation Deeres and the 5020 was my favorite. My grandpa and great uncle pumped it up to a dynoed 187 hp. My cousin later replaced the 5020 with a 6030 but got real expensive to run because it would twist axles in half before...

can my XTR be tightened up?
I have a Winchester 94 big bore and though it is a very handsome rifle the lever seems loose. If I don't keep my hand on the lever when carrying it the darn thing rattles as bad as a Benelli pump. All of the screws are tight it just seems sloppy compared to all of my other lever guns. The gripping s...

Re: A "Henry" by any other name...
I love my Henry .22 mag golden boy but I don't like the blocky looking receiver of the big boy. I'd really like to see them make a rifle that looks like a REAL Henry. Clean sided receiver that is sized in between the big boy and the golden boy, top eject, no forearm wood, and a flip up ladder sight ...

Very cool! I have a C. Sharps Arms 1874 Hartford model chambered in .45-2 7/8ths (aka 45-110). I always thought that it would sure be fun to use it on a hunt for something bigger than our little California deer.

.375 win brass?
Hopefully someone can help me with this one. I have a .375 win that I've never had the chance to fire and a bunch of 30-30 brass. The case measurements lead me to believe that I could just neck the cases up to make .375 brass but I'm not sure if it would end up being a true .375 case or if it would ...

My go to hunting rifle is a model 70 Classic Laminated like yours but mine's blued (and I'm jealous!). I absolutely love the .270 wsm! I load it with 110 grain Barnes TSX bullets over a stout charge of IMR-4350. At a tad over 3500 fps it shoots as flat as a varmint cartridge but it packs the mail li...

Winchester Big Bore question
Hello all. I recently got a like new condition top eject Winchester XTR Big Bore in .375 win. and some thing about it has me puzzled. On my pre '64 30-30 when the action is closed the lever stays pushed againced the safety plunger that sticks out from the bottom tang metal, my big bore doesn't. The ...
