Found this one in a pawn shop. It's a .357. I'm probably going to try to find some original grips for it, but these are growin' on me.

I'd consider one because they are cheap and light. The Henry cost twice as much. I think there is little chance of Marlin being "Plowed Under."

Bubba had filed some finger grooves in the original LH grip pannel. It had a Houge rubber Monogip installed but I couldn't bear to look at it. I'll have about $350.00 in it.

I fitted a used New Model grip to the left side after installing the correct blackened hardware and medallion in it. I gave the grips a couple of coats of Min-Wax Satin Tung Oil Finish to make them match better. Just a cheap shooter and woodsbum pistol. http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d34/Woodsman...

Re: Why is it so hard to get rid of Blackpowder?
Don, Where are you getting real black powder for that price? Here in north Florida, I can not find any at all and the prices I am finding on the internet scare me. Between the cost and shipping, I would have about $50 per pound in it and I would have to buy 25 lbs. or more. I really want to find so...

Re: Why is it so hard to get rid of Blackpowder?
remember it is not exactly legal for private individuals to sell blackpowder without the proper explosive license, so folks that don't know you may be a tad squeemish about buying your powder.... False Just sprinkle it on your lawn, it will make it green. I'd shoot it up, it's perfectly good powder.

The big knife is an Ecko that was made in Japan. The steel is awesome and it's been used for just about everything inclusing reshaping the stock of a Brown Bess Musket. The other one is just a cheap knife that is marked Winchester but it works ok. The scales are sheep horn.

Re: My admission of guilt............
He's right.... The 450M has even thinner chamber walls than the .45-70 and it's loaded to 43,500 CUP. Some Commerical .45-70 Marlin ammo is loaded 43,500 CUP. I'd bet the safety margin is 50% more than that, as that is the industry standard. Still 21,000 CUP is more than enough for anything that wal...

Re: My admission of guilt............
It is correct...read the August 2007 issue of Handloader Magazine. It gives a nice list of 43,500 CUP loads for the Marlin 1895 which is a modern rifle. Even the original Trapdoors will take a whole lot more than most people believe. The 336 has been chambered in some very high pressure chamberings ...

I tried 12.5 grains of Unique and a 340 grain hard cast bullet to get on the paper, and it shot really well at 25 yards with almost no recoil. I then switched to 30 grains of IMR-4198, a CCI LR Primer, Starline cases, a 405 grain hard cast Georgia Arms bullet with an OAL of 2.550 and shot a sub-1&qu...

I hit some pawn shops in P'cola today. In one I found a nice 1981 vintage Marlin 39A for $260.00 and a 1950 vintage Model 94 Winchester for $249.95. They knocked a little off because I bought both. The 94 has a pretty nice patina but not much bluing left. The wood is nice and it feeds and functions ...
