Re: Pistol bullets at rifle velocities

Finally spoke to a guy at Nosler! He says their 210 will be good at 1800! They test/ have data for 1600 from pistol barrels. I mentioned I was using a Henry in 41, he had no idea such an animal was on the market. Seems he is a 41 fan as well, has been trying to get his hands on a Marlin but the auct...

The 265 was developed for the 444, lots of people had that happen! My concern was exactly what you say, pistol bullets at rifle velocities. That's why I emailed Hornady and Sierra. Re: Velocity testing 41 mag

So I emailed Hornady back to question their answer for XTP velocity range. They say 1000-1400 FPS. My load is 1800 from the Henry. They tell me I'm pushing them well past what it is designed for. So I guess I better not shoot a deer that is under my stand or out to 75 yards or so! But on second thou...

Although I have never installed. Cutts, I have done screw in choke tubes. But that depends on wall thickness. Gotta have enough for threads to be cut. Colonial choke used to make a thin wall tube, not sure if they are still on the market. If it was me, I'd put tubes in (if walls are thick enough), m...

Pistol bullets at rifle velocities

After gaining chronograph data for my 41 mag load I contacted Seirra and Hornady. My load shows 1800+ FPS with 210 gr bullets. I was curious about velocity ranges that the Seirra Sportsmaster, Hornady XTP were designed for. Seirra says 1800- sure no problem, should do fine for deer. Hornady replies-...
