Re: 1886 33 WCF
Nice! My Dad's best friend has one of those he got when he was a boy in the 1930's and he used it up until a few years ago when age forced him to stop hunting. That rifle was sure death on deer and hogs using old factory ammo that he stock piled when it started becoming scarce.

Re: new Marlin
Look for one of the Marlin's made before Remington defiled them. "JM" marked on the barrel instead of "REM". Lots of good used ones still out there as well as NIB models. I found a NIB Marlin 39A (JM marked) in a small gun shop the 3rd of this month. It was just sitting there wai...

I passed up a nice Marlin 336 from the 60's last week. Just can't buy them all. Lord knows I've tried. I did by the 336 sitting next to it in the rack. It was made in 1976 and appears new. I didn't need it but the good Marlins seem to be drying up fast now for some reason. Yeah, Me too. I just got ...

Re: Is this just a mistake on Marlin's website...???
^ I think the point of the thread drift is that that rifle will never be made again. Even if they make something that sort of looks similar. :( Sadly, There will never be another Marlin rifle produced. There will be clones made (and poorly so far) by the Remlin mega-mart. There are plenty of ...

Is Marlin/Remington shipping anything besides the .30-30 right now? I looked at one of those in a gun shop today and was not impressed at all. I don't know about all of the new ones but this thing had a really homely laminate stock and some kind of flat finish on the metal, Pretty depressing for a M...

I learned a long time ago that if I was going to watch any TV show/movie that involved guns, military tactics, firefighting etc. that it didn't make any sense to sit there expecting accuracy in the story line. This isn't anything new, the western movies of the 60's often had SAA's that fired 10-12 sh...

I put a 1.5-4.5 Swift compact on my 1894CL .32-20 (Mainly because it was free) and I really like it so far. The lower power has a very wide field of view and gathers a lot of light. Hobie's suggestion of a 2.5x would be a really good choice too. If you are going for a "vintage" look the ol...

.41 mag in a lever gun is a great little package. I have one of the Marlin 1894FG .41's and it's my favorite out of every lever action I own. [quote="casastahle"] In all seriousness, I agree, scopes don’t look the best on most lever guns. That said, with today’s antler restrictions a scope is a big advantage in the woods I hunt in anyway. Two years ago I would not have shot this buck without the aid of that 1x to 4x Leupold sitt...

I think that's a pretty decent price these days. The closet I've seen to it locally is a .22 Magnum model that has seen some hunting use and has a bent front sight as an added bonus. I bought the 6P LED model when it was first released and I've been very happy with it compared to the standard model I'd used before. It's plenty bright enough and the batteries last a lot longer. I buy my batteries in bulk from battery junction and they are much cheaper that way.
