I read it too, only a couple of months back, and it was truly excellent. The guy that write it did a very good non-fiction treatment. (Wish I remembred his name, I will have to look for his other books) I highly recommend it to all.

Re: Zastava M98 mauser rifle questions
The one I had and the ones I have seen owned by others some are okay and others were rough; milling marks, clunky sloppy bolts, and they wouldnt feed very well. You had to slam the bolts back and forth to get them to feed properly. Controlled round feeding just wasnt taking place. You could have don...

Re: if it was a boy cat, I'd name it Pitchy
I have a ginger cat, looks just the same as yours, a bit bigger. Real adventurer too, I take him on long walks like a dog, without a leash. When he gets tired he will calmly, as befitting his station in life, ride around on my shoulder like a pirate's parrot. And not afraid of anything, excepting bu...

Hey! What about me! I am still here, and still shooting deer with my Winchester. Got a nice 10 point stag with my .30/30 this April. I m in Dunedin but hunt mostly in Fiordland or on the West coast. Started out on my father's Winchester 92 in .44/40. http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c271/Carlsen/DS...

I disagree, the Gurkhas have had quite a few VC's awarded. The CGM is their equivalent of the DSC. Not sure how much they're paid but it in Nepal is basically a fortune, and they are HIGHLY regarded among British and any other allied forces, I've spoken to a few Gurkhas and mostly their Brit suppor...

Re: OT, Humor - Secret to a Long Marriage
After we got married, the wife took the marriage certificate to get her maiden name changed as they do...only she had it in the pocket of her raincoat and it got wet. The bottom half of it, the ink ran. Whenever something comes up I tell her that I am not contractually bound to do that and that she ...

Re: Rossi R92 Octagonal Forend removal
Thats interesting thanks, I was looking at the same thing not long ago. I have the same rifle in .44/40 and get 13 too. We have a Uberti tang sight on the rifle and are shooting 2 inch groups with it at 100 yards. This one has actual real walnut and pleasantly figured, which is unusual for a Rossi. ...

Rossi 92 rifle forestock
Gentlemen, I have a Rossi .44/40 24 inch Octagonal barrel rifle. I dont actually have it with me at the moment, hence my question, but how is the forearm and metal cap attached to the barrel? If a man wanted to take that forestock and shorten it by an inch or two, how much trouble would I have to go...

There is an Antique at my local gunshop. Its been there a while. Excellent condition not a mark on it and bore looks as new. Got the case hardeing and the scroll work. Doesnt say antique on it. I keep looking at it, but they want much too much for it, and even worse, it has the loosest sloppiest rat...

Hugo montenegro??
The music to The Good The bad and the Ugly, as well as the other Sergio Leone made westerns was composed by Ennio Marricone. The man is a genius. He did many many others films, also did the music to The Mission (with Robert Deniro) which is wonderful.

He could be a market hunter? That was big business in the '80's and 90's?
On the other hand the photographer guy comes through camp, the fellow decides he'll have his photo taken, and says hang on let me go and get my new guns and put them on while you set up that camera.

At short range hunting havnt noticed any difference, but then you wouldn't I suppose. Range shooting a couple of times I noticed that they would shoot high for some reason.

Re: Utah to use Model 94s for firing squad execution
I sort of find this unlikely - why would they use .30/30's? Do they still have them lying around from the last time they did it?
Why wouldnt they use what they get issued with now, AR's or something.

Re: ON TOPIC!!!! Performance stories of Levergun Cartridges
With a 1952 Winchester 94 in .30/30 I have shot red deer, hares, possums, feral goats, trout...I have missed a couple of fallow deer, never could close the deal with the .30/30 on one of them, too sneaky in thick bush those little deer. The red deer stags can be big animals and died just as well as ...

Re: BLR's in the Rainforest
I guess the elves have upgraded their hunting equipment after a few thousand years. Here in Middle Earth, we don't shoot the rifles, they are just for the cool factor - you wave them a certain way and the stags fall into a deep dark sleep... Only you can't do it with a plastic stock. Just...

The red stag roar in Fiordland, New Zealand.... I took an old steel receiver BLR in .308 out, with a Weaver 3 x. Next time I will be going with open sights only, constant rain or drizzle and two stags shot at ranges of 6 yards and 12 yards... The first was a 9 pointer that I roared up (called in) ht...
