Re: Hard winter coming
I never really look at winter as either hard or easy it's just winter. I try not and complain if it gets nasty for longer periods of time, as after all it is my choice to stay where I am. We do get nasty nasty cold and lots of snow (strangely not as much as we used to 30 years ago), but we also get ...

Re: off topic - Any .303 British shooters out there?
I've still got my competition 303 here complete with parker hale target peep sights. I used to shoot DCRA matches here in Canada. Start at 600 yards and go out to 1000. At that time they were all shot with 303's in their own class. The 303 is a very underrated cartridge usually by those who haven't ...

Re: 3 old photos, Texas Rangers, bear hunter, & cowboy to enjoy.
I only know two of the ranger's names. As you look at the photo, kneeling on the left is Light Townsend, later captain of co. C, and next to him kneeling is Capt. Will Wright. The photo was taken in 1925 in Laredo, Texas. At this time it was Captain Wright's Co. D. This is about the time all Texas ...

Re: off topic - Any .303 British shooters out there?
I still own 7 or 8 of them. Growing up here every house had at least one cut down 303 behind the door. First rifle I ever shot or owned was one. I've shot tons of deer, moose and elk with one. The old 200 grain loads were great for moose but the 180's work just fine. I use cast loads or FMJ for coyo...

I don't think we also have the same hunter density in alot of our areas (at least out west here and in the north) that some of you southern folks experience. I have spent weeks up in the bush and never seen another human other than my hunting partner.

In my province (Quebec) 4 snow tires are mandatory. Not mud and snow but tires designed for snow. They are fairly aggresive and made of a softer rubber compound that adheres better in cold weather. We can also use studs in the snow tires. With a 2wd weight over the wheels makes all the difference b...
