Re: 40-72 Brass
I haven't tried Buffalo but some of the places I've called won't ship north. I can have them shipped to a little bar just over the border and make a run down and bring them up myself just haven't had the time (it's a four hour round trip). I'll give buffalo a look see. I have access to a full machin...

Re: 40-72 Brass
The 40-72 for all intents and purposes is nothing more than a .405 necked down about .003"...depending on groove diameter which ranged pretty widely. The nice thing about the 40-72 vs the .405 is that the .405 has a slightly thicker rim...about .013" per Winchester spec. and has a little ...

Re: It bears repeating, don't talk to the police....
If I have a dead man in my living room I would have three statements. 1> I want that man arrested 2> Please call him medical attention 3> I wish to call my lawyer. 4> Keep mouth shut. I was given that advice by a retired RCMP sarge. He said never acknowledge the fellow is dead until the police tell ...

For the Canadians on the board the same bears true here north of the border.

Re: Tumbling Media
Stay with corn cob. Its cheap, works, and can be washed over and over and used again. My guess is those little glass beads will somehow find their way into the action of your gun, besides, they don't have any absorbing qualities.--------Sixgun I hadn't even considered the absorbant part of things. ...

Re: 40-72 Brass
40-72 and 40-82 are different beasts. The 40-82 has more of a bottle neck and the rim is alot bigger than on the 40-72. I have some 40-72 brass and my 45-90 brass would require way too much reworking and I think would end up being too short for the 40-72. I think I found an answer, all i have to do ...

40-72 Brass
Finding 40-72 brass here in Canada can be a real pain. I know that 405 brass can be used but it needs some modification. Can someone tell me exactly what I would need to do to be able to use the 405 brass in my 40-72's.

I was just wondering if anyone had ever tried the small glass beads used for sandblasting in their tumbler for brass polishing and if it worked okay?

Re: Win 1886 vs. Marlin 1895
I've owned both and would agree that you won't go wrong with either. I love my marlin for my hopped up moose and bear loads (been charged a few times), but my old original 1886 is still a dream to use for the rest of my needs.

Re: Bullet Moulds
I was just wondering what everyone's favourite mould was for casting for the the 45-70, 38-55 and 30-30. Anyone have any recommendations for casting for the 40-72? I guess it depends on what your going to do with it, but in the 45-70 I like the lyman postell and the rcbs 82084 mould for long range ...

Re: Keeping Rounds Separate
I can help you out even better Huntermb, just send me that old outdated 1886 and then you can just load one level of ammo and use it in a nice new gun instead of that old worn out thing. Hey I'm just trying to make your life simpler! Tom Geez thanks, that is so generous of you :D I guess I shouldn'...

Re: Keeping Rounds Separate
Brent, I have the same situation with my .45 Colt ammo. What I've done is set up a color code that I mark on the primers with a permanent Sharpie marker. Green = SAAMI spec, shoot in all smokeless guns Blue = a bit above SAAMI, shoot in all smokeless guns Red = Ruger, Winchester, Marlin ONLY. No Co...

Keeping Rounds Separate
So I bit the biscuit and have a late 70's Marlin 1895 in 45-70 winging my way. I plan on loading it up with some fairly hefty loads. I already load for 45-70 for my Sharps carbine and my original 1886 in 45-70. Now here is what I was wondering, what do you guys do to keep one of the heavy loads from...

Re: 40-72 loads
Once the daughter brings the camera back I'll post some pictures. One is an octagon barrelled version that was bought new by family member and I am the third owner of it. The other one is a round barrelled version that showed up at my door one night. My buddy hands it to me and says I got this, knew...

model 1895 40-72
Hi, I'm new to the forum. I've got a couple of model 1895's in 40-72. I've acquired a little brass and dies etc. I was wondering if you folks could offer up some good loads for these olds girls and maybe some bullet suggestions. I was also thinking about shooting cast bullets out of them from time t...
