Re: a youg lad and his Great G'pa's 1893 Marlin .32 H.P.S.
Tuesday night at the gun club. Range 50yards. He fired 3 rounds of Hornady Leverevolution ammo. The bullets landed 6-7 inches above the point of aim with the rear sight at its lowest level. I explained him that when this rifle was made, the standard factory ammo was cataloged at 2,050f.p.s. and the...

Prayers for you and your family.
I lost my Dad in February, so I know what you're going through. Make sure that you are there for your mother.

I think you're thinking of Whitakers. They advertise being the largest gun store in Kentucky and having over 8000 firearms in stock.AJMD429 wrote:There is a huge one in the Indiana town just across the river from Louisville. Forget the name.

Re: Reminiscences of the Old Man
I read most of the FoxFire books when I was a kid, and though they were more regional, they were a very authentic representation of 'the old ways'. I wish I had bought the series instead of just checking them out of the library. They are still available: https://www.lehmans.com/p-8057-the-foxfire-b...

Re: Marines Allow Operators to Choose Glocks over MARSOC .45
Pinning grip safeties has been semi-common since the 70's that I recall. I dont think its done as often today, but some obviously still do it. I just don't see how you could grasp a 1911 and not engage the grip safety. Maybe just not using enough grip or non-average sized hands or something I guess...

Re: Marines Allow Operators to Choose Glocks over MARSOC .45
Uhhh....not that I'm a professional shooter (far from it) but I've sure never heard of this. Is this accurate???A lot of professional shooters who run custom 1911s will disable that beavertail grip safety to avoid this problem....

Re: Family Heirloom Saga--Can't seem to get my hands on it.
I have an heirloom situation of my own. My first cousin (6 months older, we are both mid-40's) has several guns that belonged to our grandfather and great-grandfather. There was a modest collection of guns that were split between the only 2 brothers (my father and my uncle). Fast forward to today, m...

Nice deer! He's a dandy! Glad to hear that your girl has a level head on her shoulders. So many of our youth today are lacking that.... I took my 14 year old daughter out a few times last year. The first morning we went out, she toughed it out for a couple of hours, shivering most of the time. Final...

Seems a little late to the party. Most stores that I've been in the last few months have more AR's than they know what to do with.

Re: Free PDF Zane Grey - Man of the Forest
Thank you for the suggestion! I read Zane Grey books as a kid. My grandpa was a Zane Grey fan and had quite a collection of them. Sadly, all but a couple of them were lost when the family homestead burned down a few years ago. After reading your post, I checked iBooks (I use Apple products) and lo a...

Re: Poppies at the Tower
Very sobering tribute. The WWI Memorial in Kansas City has a similar theme using poppies. Each visitor's journey begins with a surreal walk across a glass-floored bridge. A lush field of 9,000 red poppies lies below, each flower representing 1,000 military deaths. It is a very nice memorial and muse...

Good job and CONGRATS!
Also, I like your revolvers. The 1860 grip frame feels better to me than the SAA. I never could figure out why the Colt grip frame got smaller after the 1860...

Re: Why do guides use surgical gloves when skinning in the f
I wear them when I skin Whitetail Deer during our deer season here in Missouri. I guess I have some sort of allergy to the hair on the deer or something that's on the hair. If I don't wear the gloves, my hands and wrists get very itchy. It's also pretty nice to be able to peel a glove off if you nee...
