Friend of mine just uses a manilla envelope. Use an empty case to punch them out. He had a .44 mag loaded so hot it was spitting molten lead out the barrel. Solved with one little (free) paper disc.

Any Reason Not To Get a Henry?
Friend of mine wants a .357 lever, the only one available in town is a Henry. I told him far as I know they're a good rifle, but thought I'd run it by you guys. Occasionally you'll see a Marlin 1894 but they're usually gone as soon as the shop gets them. He wants to buy it locally so no internet sale.

Nothing too fancy, meeting these criteria: drop in fit under $50 shrouded front sight square or "U" notch on the rear, not a "V" rear sight plate with the notch (don't know what it's called) must be flat across the top like the original Marlin 60 sight, not curved like the 1894

.357 COAL in .38 Brass - I thought someone made a bullet...
The rumor mill has told me that there is a bullet (projectile) made for loading .38/.357 that has two crimp rings so you can load a .357 load in a .38 case. You just set the bullet to the second ring and you get the correct volume inside the case for .357 as well as the correct COAL. To clarify, I'm...

I just finished reading the book to my kid, as recommended by this forum. It never mentions what caliber any of the firearms were. Midway has the Lee turret kit for about $120, then you'll need to get a manual and dies. I'd say pick up one of those and call it good. Turrets are fine for learning, and once you get your die set how you want it you don't have to pull it out again, so it saves having to reset every time - the least...

The public range I use is only good to about 130 yards. Maybe keep the empty primer boxes and label them with the caliber loaded, then you're subtracting 100 off your known total.

I'll set it up on a tripod and get various angles of someone else shooting. The I can use Final Cut Express editing software on a Macintosh to slow it down or pull out individual frames. Not sure how well it will work since the software works in 30 frames per second, but I'll find out.

Just noticed that my hi-def camcorder can be set to 10,000 frames per second. On a good day a 230 grain slug from a .45 acp might hit 1000 feet per second. In 1/10,000th of a second that same slug is traveling about 1 1/4 inch. So it would be a little blurry, but I should be able to pick up a bullet...
