This is a new repro that was antiqued:
I have an old rifle that was pitted pretty bad but as been cleaned up and I'd like it to look like that. Anyone know the process?

Re: Powder Selection for my .357: Need a tie breaker
Thanks. And after all that my local retailer had exactly ZERO of the powders you guys recommended, so I brought home a pound of 296 for use in the .357. When loading the .38+p for the levergun do I stick with the faster short barrel powders - Unique, AA#5, or not? So far AA#5 seems to produce respec...

Am I going to be better off using different powders for the .38 +p and the .357? I use the same 158 grain SWC in both, for now.Hobie wrote:I use Lil'Gun. Unique is for .38 Special level loads.

Yeah, that one is popular too. Powder prices had dropped so it wouldn't hurt to get a pound and see how it goes.stretch wrote:Wavetrain, might I suggest the good old standby of 2400?...

Powder Selection for my .357: Need a tie breaker
Tried some AA#5 for .38 spl +p and some fairly hot .357. They shot nicely through my Marlin 1894 but cases from both loads had a slight bulge just above the rim. Loads were hot but below max for the powder. Given that .357 is light for a rifle I'd like to keep them hot but do away with what would ap...

Well, they'll drop an elephant and while the recoil is certainly stout it's a lot more manageable than you'd guess.
Don't have one, but it's in the running if I ever get into big bores.

What do you think of .45 acp as a Rifle / Carbine round?
.45 acp is probably my favorite round of all time. That's not to say it's the best round of all time, just my favorite. I like the low pressure and resulting moderate recoil for a large round. .357 and .44 mag adapted nicely into carbines. .45 acp really didn't, if the number of available .45 acp le...

Re: Thoughts on lever as bad times rifle?????????
A lever gun would sure beat a sharp stick in the eye. But you have to look at the hisiorical significance of the Garand: Semi automatic. The ability to shave a fraction of a second off of followup shots can be a big deal if someone is actually shooting back. I'd feel ok with a lever gun. I'd feel be...

Semi wad cutters cycle ok, but not as smooth as I'd like. Are round nose safe to use or what would be better?

Re: .38 Spl. man stopper?
There's a fair number of reasonably priced .357 snubbies available, the Taurus 605, as one example. If you have any doubts about your .38 you can always step up to the .357. Best of both if you ask me.

I'm restoring my Dad's old 1949 Ford F-1 truck. I was working on the new wiper kit today. It has the stock flathead V-8 and will look pretty much original when it's done, but now includes fiberglass front springs, disc brakes, air conditioning, cruise control, heated seats and a few other things. I ...

Re: Chaparral 1876s on CDNN
So guys, should I buy a Chaparral or not? Cabelas has one and it sure is purty, the case colors are o so fine, but I don't want alot of trouble. I've read that Chaparral's quality control is spotty at best. If you get a good one, you're in great shape. But there's at least an equal chance that you ...

Re: OT-I HATE autoloaders updated with another one
Ugh. A friend of mine celebrated getting his concealed weapons permit by buying himself a Baby Eagle .380. "Look what I got," as he held it to his temple. "It's not loaded." It wasn't, as it turned out. But I walked away and crossed him off the list of people I'll go to the range...

I have not and will not own a Hi-Point. However, the carbine is universially regarded as a fun reliable range toy and the people who run down the pistols are the people who have never owned one. People who actually have one say that if you can get past the look they are actually a pretty good firearm.

From everyone I've talked to, they really like their big bore leverguns.

Re: OT - Amazing Video of an SR-71
A guy at a heavy equipment shop that I rent from claims to have been a fueler for SR-71s. So far he hasn't tripped my BS Detector, but he says the top speed for an SR-71 was close to 15,000 mph. The log books had to be doctored to keep it in the 2500 mph range. They've been retired for a while, so t...
