Re: Marlin 1895 500 s&w
I've got over 2 dozen leverguns of various caliber. I personally see no point in having a .500 S&W version unless I also owned a .500 S&W handgun. Which I don't. And probably won't. There's not much on earth a .45-70 at 28K won't kill. Or my .444 Marlin. And I can buy 2 or 3 (or more) Winche...

I use my pickup as a benchrest for prairie dogs all the time. I use an owl ear sandbag on the mirror or window glass. I have a Miroku 1873 Winchester in .357.
I've shot it a bunch, though not gotten thousands of rounds through this one, yet.
The metal used in the toggle action today is not the same metal used 145 years ago.

The 44 WCF is more historically authentic although I can understand keeping things simple by adding another 45. Both should be reliable and one will plink and punch paper about as good as the other. Get the. 44-40
I have one in .357 and really like it.
I have .45 Colt rifles in 1860, 1866 and 1892 versions. The only one I shoot much is the 92 since I can shoot +P+ with it and have taken plenty of hogs and mule deer with it.
I may liquidate some things and buy an 1866 Miroku in .44-40

Yes, at point blank range, with factory ammo, bullet probably didnt have time to expand. Point blank range doesn't mean what you think it means. And the closer the projectile is to the bore, the higher the velocity, so it is more expansive, not less. I do see your point that it could hit all 3 with...
