Re: OT - anyone re-sharpen drill bits ?

After: I couldn't resist the urge to 'polish' the bits up a bit after the above sharpening, using a hard-Arkansas stone. Maybe it's just my imagination, but it always seems that a final finish with that stone on any cutting edge maybe doesn't make it sharper , but makes it last longer . The edge ju...

You are looking for nicks or dents at the muzzle. You are looking for streaking from lead/copper that shows lack of or improper cleaning. I've seen very few used rifles that are cleaned at all, let alone correctly when I'm shopping used. You are looking for sharp lands in conventional rifling, smoot...

Sweet looking rifle. I've got a real sweet spot for 1893s since a rifle very much like your new toy was the first centerfire I ever shot(quite a bit older and more worn than that beautiful example, even then). I'm afraid that has jaded me somewhat in that while I've owned several Winchesters, they s...

Cool picture. I can remember riding the bus to high school one cold morning here in SD back in the 70s and seeing a sun dog like I'd never seen before or since. I may be wrong but given that alcohols are oxygen carriers, are very corrosive to some metals, dissolve a lot of rubber products and paints, I wouldn't be putting any alcohol based liquids in tires for ballast. There was another ejector on the real early ones that I've never dealt with (that may apply to yours, don't remember the cutoff date) but if you can find the 336 (or current 1894) assembly instructions, it should do for the 1893. If after the stock is removed, the action still won't move, on the action, loosen(1/2 - 3/4 turn) the screw that is just above the trigger, the one on the opposite side above the lever pivot and the one on the bottom just before the forend. This should allow you to move the lower tang enough that it...

The buttstock will come off with no other disassembly of the rifle. One screw, slide it off is how it's removed(exceptions for tang sight screws that may also go into the wood, though that shouldn't be a problem for the original "plug" screws). Did you try loosening the buttstock screw aga...
