I know this is out there, a bit. I've got an old 1975 ST16 Sears tractor mower with an equally old Tecumseh 16 hp OHV Single cylinder motor on it. It quit last night and I haven't been able to get it to start again. I plan to get back at it later today but I'm usually able to get most problems fixed...

My brother and nephew have Savages in 17. I'm pretty sure you are going to like it. We were shooting them this weekend and both rifles were shooting under an inch at 100yards. I was suitably impressed. I'm thinking a 17 needs to join my stable in the near future.

My brother bought one of those in "like new" condition in the early 70s. He wore the guts out, came into a bunch of parts guns by buying out an old gunsmith, rebuilt it, wore it out again, rebuilt it again, still has it. It's been fantastically accurate throughout, though only the stock, b...

There were 2 generations of the E, one that ran from 1920-1936(shorter action, 300savage family of cartridges), and an E carbine that ran from 1960-1982 (this has the longer postwar action that allowed chambering in the 308 family of cartridges) both with the lever safety. Large rifle primers are a little taller. The primer pocket is swaged deeper in rifle cases to allow for this. If you use LRP as opposed to LPP, you have to crush the primer to get them flush with the case and can get inconsistent ignition. If seated to the right depth for the primer, they can bind t...

For an auto pistol cartridge, I don't think there's any need for a crimp die other than the one in the seating die. Neck tension is what holds the bullet. You are just taking the bell of the case out of the case when you crimp in ACP cartridges. Then, there are reloaders that swear by them(and other...

I use a mix of Lyman corn cob and walnut with about 10% used coffee grounds in my homemade tumbler. A friend told me about the coffee, I tried it and he was right, adding it gives a nicer shine. You can't use much more than that as a percentage or it plugs cases up bad.

Go with the extra 1/2" for all the above reasons. You'll never notice it in the field anyway.
If you want shorter, do the paperwork, pay the money and do a short barreled rifle if your state allows it. Bear in mind there may also be some restrictions on use in hunting when you go NFA.

What Old Savage & RR7 said, as that's the most likely problem. If your sight picture is the same with both guns, have someone check out your swing with both. It depends on how you shoot, steady swing or through the target, the style determines the problem. I'm guessing it's the latter, where you...

That's about the outside limit for something that large, screw your full choke in or if you have one, an extra full/turkey.
I've used a shotgun lots of times. Usually with 3" 4 buck as it ups the range by more than double what you're going to have.
