Re: Got myself a Hi Power

We had 4'9" females in my unit who carried an M9 as a secondary weapon and managed to shoot it just fine even with small hands. I'd personally prefer a Glock 17 or M&P9 in the plastic crowd, or a CZ-75BD with short trigger set in the metal crowd. If SA guns were allowed, the HP Mark III wo...

Re: Got myself a Hi Power

I don't consider the HP superior to the 92, though nicely set up examples can be. Out of the box though, Berettas tend to have better triggers than factory military HPs, though the HP fits most people a bit better. The 92 is much larger than a 15 round 9mm needs to be, the grip is too thick, the sl...

Re: Sharps in 38-55

Uberti makes an 1871 rolling block copy in .38-55. It's high on the list as they are light and handy little rifles. I've also seen Uberti 1885's chambered in .38-55, but they are no longer listed. Cimmaron however lists a .38-55 high wall and I'd love to have one of those as well. As for a Sharps, f...

Re: Got myself a Hi Power

I am a Hi Power fan and they are the only double stack high capacity 9mm pistol that fits my hand well. They point exceptionally well and with the magazine safety removed, they have fairly decent triggers that allow fairly quick double taps and controlled pairs. It's impressive that they were first ...

I saw a shooter with a very nice 20" un-checkered 9422 XTR at our local range last weekend, but he left before I had a chance to talk with him and take a closer look. This morning I went looking for some .22WMR to feed my Single Six and I ran across what I think is the same very nice un-checker...

Re: Dry Firing A .22 Long Rifle Caliber Gun

It really varies by design whether you can dry fire a .22 LR or not, and even then there are some qualifiers to consider. For example, the Ruger Mk II and Mk III pistols have a retaining pin for the firing pin that serves as a firing pin stop to absorb the momentum of the firing pin and it also limi...

Re: Why does everybody carry a rope in Westerns?

A lariat is normally only about 35' long and fairly stiff compared to what most people consider to be rope. That greatly reduces it's utility for pretty much anything other than head or heel roping. You'd want some other kind of rope for all the other stuff. I suspect cowboys back in the day also ha...

Re: Levers in Westerns - 92 or 94 ?

The Model 92 was not discontinued until 1945, so it was still readily available in shootable condition at reasonable prices in the 1950's for studio use - much more so than the Model 1873. That in a nutshell is why the Model 92 was so common in film and television. However, beginning in the mid 1950...

Re: Can I form 300 Savage ffrom 7.62 NATO?

Not really. First, 7.62 NATO cases are thicker than .308 Winchester cases as they are designed to be fired through full auto weapons that may have excessive headspace. The thicker walls reduce the chance of a head separation, but they also decrease the internal volume, making load development of you...

I prefer the .375 Win over the .444. If I wanted something in the .444 performance class, I'd buy a .45-70. The .375 does a superb job of stretching .30-30 performance another 50 yards or so, and it's got a lot more potential with cast bullets and .38-55 type loads than the .30-30. It also does extr...

Sharps Carbine or Springfield Carbine, it would not have made much difference.
