Got another 30-30 (Photo)
A friend of mine decided to sell his Winchester Model 1894 Saddle Ring Carbine chambered in 30-30, several months ago. I figured I'd kick myself if I didn't snag this one while the opportunity was there, so decided to add it to my small collection of two other 30-30's. This one was made in 1921. htt...

If in doubt, and you really need to punch through the bush because the bad boys are a-coming... That calls for hand grenades. I hate it when tossing hand grenades in heavy brush and one of them bounces off a tree and comes right back at me. :( Of course, that brings up the question of which grenade...

Re: What is actually a GOOD 'Brush Gun'...?
Setting aside the question about whether one should shoot through brush, the question boils down to a simple matter of physics ... the higher the momentum of the bullet, given the same twig at exactly the same spot and angle, the less it will deflect. For example, a freight train hitting a 3 foot sn...

A buddy of mine was given a Marlin 38-55, we finally tracked down a box of factory loads and took it to try it out. Couldn't hit paper at 50! So we moved to 25 and put a bigger piece of paper up, then we found it shot patterns instead of groups. We knew the bore was dark and pitted but had no idea ...

You really do know how to find them Kirk! That is one NICE rifle! I am intrigued by your comment about the difference in octagon versus round barrel performance. So what loads are you shooting through it? Factory or reloads? If the latter, would you care to share your loading data? It shoots very well using a standard weight bullet (255 grains) at either the original BP velocity of 1,300 fps, or the later High Velocity 1,600 fps. I'm talking approximately 2", five-shot groups at 100 yards.Tycer wrote:That's a real beauty Kirk. Shoot well?

One thing that detracts from a good Western is if they have period incorrect, or unrealistic firearms. The old movies usually had nothing but Colt SAA's and Winchester Model 92's. The new ones usually put a bit more work into getting things a little more historically accurate.
