I like my Ruger American in 30-06 with a Leupold VXIII 3.5-10 CDS, it does anything you would need a hunting rifle to do and only weighs 7.25lbs ready to hunt, shoots sub MOA and as a bonus, didn't break the bank.

The .45 Colt (long colt whatever) was developed by Colt and the US army, the cartridge is a propriety round of Colt, the original manufacturer of the round. It is interesting to note that Colt does not sell any guns chamered in .45 Colt, ONLY in .45 Long Colt, check the website.

I avoid all the foreign replicas, with the exception of Rossi 92's. I have had a few and had really bad luck with them and the lack of customer support. The replicas are getting very pricey these day's anyways, enough that you can get a USFA for about the same or a little more depending on the model...

You should be fine shooting deer with a cast .357 bullet, you should also be getting expansion with them as long as they are of the proper alloy. Try a softer alloy gas checked bullet, maybe around 10 BHN.
