Maybe I'm confused. The number you posted for the front sight was 579-103-731, which is .375. The sight I thought I might order is .410. That IS a taller sight, right?

My .44 dies are carbide so I don't usually lube them, but I lube my 45-70 cases with Crisco. Loaded 1500 +/- without a stuck case.

What I did was really low-tech. First, I stripped it using off-the-shelf stripper from Walmart. Then I used gloss polyurethane finish, also off-the-shelf walmart. When putting it on straight from the can, I was getting air bubbles in it. So I thinned it a bit and that took care of the air bubbles. I...

A Tale of 2 Pumas

The top one is as received from Bud's in September. It was the prettiest of the two. The bottom one (also from Bud's), bought last month, had no grain showing, was flat, very dark, and looked much worse than the one on top. It was just a butt ugly duckling. A little refinishing brought out this swan...

Re: Help - Loaded Cartridge Stuck Protruding from Mag. in Marlin

Both my Marlins cycle just fine, fast or slow. But I don't cycle them REAL fast cause I don't want to have to go to the next county to hunt my brass. Don't stop the down stroke until the lever stops. That's a sure clog. Both my Puma's operate as smooth as the Marlins with the same eccentricities.

Re: How long do you smoke your butts?

Nate's right. The collagen has to break down and it takes time. Sometimes they get to 170-180 and plateau there for 3-4 hours. When the temp does decide to go on up, it goes up pretty fast. I've pulled them off at 190 but they fall apart better at 200-205. I don't use the oven. Mine are done full ti...

Although it's listed on the Marlin website, the .357 Cowboy is rare.

I've been looking for one at Bud's for a LONG time and there have been none.

Davidson's also has none but I don't know how long they've been out.

If Marlin's making them, they must be going to big-box retail.

I smoke mine at 250 degrees grate temp until internal temp is 195-200. It usually takes 12-16 hours. They pull good. If you only smoke it 4 hrs. it may still be raw inside.

The most accurate gun I have gets cleaned once a decade, whether it needs it or not. It's my 1946 Remington Scoremaster 511 .22 that my dad purchased new. I've had it now for a couple of cleanings (read decades) and it'll outshoot any of my lever guns.
