Re: Pet Load B92 357
I've had good luck with AA#9 and 180 gr, CP or Beartooth WFNGC bullets. Don't have access to reloading notes for exact charge weight. Oh, this WAS from a B92.

Re: Winchester Gunsmith
Well Sir; I believe a rifle thst shoots 8" groups @ 100 yds., with tailored handloads is already "screwed up".
My interest is in breathing life in this '71 so it can be used and appreciated. It is not a "safe queen".

Winchester Gunsmith
Looking for first hand recommendations for some custom work on a Mod. '71 (other than Turnbull).
My '71 is mechanically sound but shoots 8" patterns @ 100 yds. My desire is to rebarrel to .450 Alaskan/.45/70(?) and reblue the receiver. I'd really like to "recycle" this rifle.
Thank you.

Re: 1886 Browning
I hunt on accasion with my Browning '86.
Shot a "free range" Bison with it a few weeks back.
Rifle is plenty accurate with cast bullets. It is however, a boat anchor.
Guess it would be a non issue if your horse was packing it.

Re: Leverguns for Self Defence
Back in "the day", Jeff Cooper was a proponent of the 94 Win. in .30/30 as a "patrol rifle".
He was argueably eccentric and certainly outspoken; but one can't deny his opinion carried some weight.

.348 Win. load
Anyone have a load for a 250 gr. Hawk bullet using RL19?
59 gr. of RL19 with the Barnes 250 gr. gives me 2250 fps out of a Win. "Standard Model".
Thanks.....

Re: OT - . 44 Pistol Home Defense Loading
Probably "apples to oranges" comparison but: I've used a 300 gr XTP in .45 Colt @ 1300 + fps as a hog gun. I shot a 480 # boar a couple years ago with this load (four times). I recovered 3 of the four bullets. None of the recovered bullets showed any expansion-deformation from hitting heav...

'39/high country/sheep- possibility of griz would lead me to the '71 Winchester.

Re: What is the best way to remove the shiney Browning finish
I recently stripped and refinished (hand rubbed oil) an '86 Browning ("upgrade" wood). I used an aerosol stripper and fine brass brush. It required 3 applications of stripper, the final stage I used a scraper. #600 grit sandpaper, tack cloth and five coats of "Formby's Tung Oil"....

Re: What ammo do you shoot from a new, or new to you gun?
The only factory ammo I own is for self defense/carry guns. Oh, shotgun ammo as well. Only shotgun ammo I load is if I can't find it on the shelf-i.e. 12 ga. 1.5 oz. BB's. I enjoy the process of load develpment/sighting in. I really appreciate working up a load that will shoot to the guns potential....

Re: What ammo to use on a Bison hunt???
I've used (handload) a Cast Performance 420 gr. WFNGC (Wide Flat Nose Gas Check) @ 1850 fps (.45/70) on Bison.
Penetration being a major consideration when hunting "large, thick skinned" critters, this load shot through a quartering buff twice. No bullet recovered.
Dead Bison.
