Joes correct. The buttstock on that 336 should NOT be checkered. Its no big deal but if it bugs you just keep your eyes peeled for any modern straight grip Marlin buttstock, they should all fit.

Yup, thats a gas vent. If you look at the other flat bolt Marlins the front of the bolt has a relief on the top & bottom to do the same thing. For whatever reason they didn't do that to the 39's & when they addressed the issue opted to drill a hole in the gun. I dont know why but thats what ...

They might, I havent really looked at a new one hard. My 39M has a hole in the left side up by the breech to vent gas, but its a 70's or 80's gun. Not new by any means. The new ones have rebounding hammers too. Yuk!! Now I need the barfing smiley.

does it have the rocker or the new fangled button?
if its got the rocker you just drive out the pin & the rocker comes out freeing up the spring. I havent come actross a button one yet to tinker with but I'd think they came apart.

The only issue with ladder sights, carbine sights really, is theres no elevation adjustment for it when folded down.
I think if I were looking to do what you suggest I'd get the tallest one I could & be prepared to file it down to zero. but then your stuck with a one load gun.

I'm real glad all those guys signed the Senate brief.

If your born here your a citizen. Thats the only reason most of us are citizens. My grandparents were naturalized or whatever but I was just born here.
