Re: .223 and Deer
I would agree with 86er's recommendation on the Nosler Partition. I haven't shot any deer with a 223 but if I were going to that would probably be the bullet I would choose. Ive considered using it on deer and hogs because the deer here in Florida are so small. In the end it all comes down to shot p...

I own a Ruger Hawkeye in 270 Wichester. It will do 1/2 MOA with the right ammunition. It is made of blued steel and wood. Call me a traditionalist if you want but its my favorite rifle next to my grandfather's Remington 721 (also in 270WCF). If all other gun manufacturers are making a "base lin...

Jeff, I'm sorry for your loss. You and your family are in my prayers.
I have my maternal grandfather's remington 721 in 270WCF and my paternal grandfather's colt 22 pistol. Can't remember at the moment but its either a Woodsman or Huntsman. Neither of these will ever be sold.

I'm not sure how hot that load is. It should be fine though I'm guessing. First two hogs I shot were with WW 240grain soft point out of a 44 Mag carbine. One word of advice, if your hunting hogs with dogs, leave the rifle in the truck and just carry the sixgun. With dogs the range is usually extreme...

I also prefer a handgun for home defense. Easier to manipulate light switches and door knobs if one hand is free. Also if you have to go answer the door at the wee hours of the morning a handgun is easier to conceal and doesnt alarm people as much especially if it is a law enforcement officer. RustyJr
