Marlin XLR in .45-70

Anyone have any comments on this rifle? I'm thinking of trading my Remington 1100 Sporting 28 in on one. I would like a big bore lever, but a 300 gr. .45 cal bullet at 1500 to 1600 fps is more than I'll ever need in PA. Maybe one in .30-30 to go along with my pre-64 carbine?

Thanks,

Re: OT: One rifle & One pistol for all around use.

If you want one rifle and one handgun that are proven why not choose the M1 Garand and a 1911 .45? Well, the Garand is semi auto, illegal to hunt with here in PA, and the Garand's gas system is designed to operate with specific bullet weights (150 to 168 gr.) and powders/pressures. Those 220gr .375 diameter bullets are made for the .375 Win., not the .38-55, which although VERY similar cases, ain't the same. .38-55 is sorta noted for having .379-.381 groove diameters.
