Had mine (.45) since new from December '85--first production, with the 'Red Ryder' ring, case hardening and no safety. Definitely a keeper. Handles anything put through it, including semi-wadcutters. You will like it.

My December '46 No.5 Mk I (the so-called 'jungle carbine') likes the Hornady 150-gr Spire Points over 46.0 gr of Win 760, with Fed 210 priming. With the peep sight flipped up, this load gives 1" 3-shot groups at 100 yards.

Neither one, actually.

If I had my 'druthers, I would prefer a carbine in .303 British and a musket/rifle in 7.62x54R.

The original and still champion for my 1968 Single Six, Peacemaker .22 and 9422M Trapper is the Winchester Super-X; solid slightly better than hollow-point. Federal is next, and then the others in no particular order. For just keeping the cobwebs out of the rifling, whatever's cheapest. Around here ...

My 9422M is great. Hasn't been hunted with, but is quite accurate. It feeds and fires the .22 WRF flawlessly as well. Both rounds--WMR and WRF--group around 1.5-2" at 50 yards with the issue open sights. Makes a great companion piece to the Single Six Convertible and the Peacemaker .22/.22M.

You'll like it. At 50 yards, mine will put all holes into about a 6-inch area using the same sight picture with any .38 or .357 ammo (bullet weights from 110 to 180 grains), making no sight adjustments for the different fodder. Lots of fun.

Give some .22 WRFs a try. My 9422M Trapper loves them. More like a Long Rifle Plus P than a magnum lite. Same case as a WMR except for being a tenth of an inch shorter. Cycles and feeds flawlessly.
