The news report said the shot was fired from about 300 yards. That means he must have been aiming at the house, not into the sky.
I do not fire any firearm if I do not know the backstop, but this guy was not shooting into the sky.

OT I fly out Wednesday to start my new job
Remember my post a few weeks ago about getting laid off? The Lord works in mysterious ways because I had a job offer within 2 days. I start my new job Wednesday, so I still qualify for severance AND I might just make more money at the new job. I fly out for training on Wednesday. Back home in less t...

I don't mind that dogs eat cat poop. It must be quite a snack since most dogs find it near irresistable. What I said is that I don't want to pay a bunch of money for a dog. The pound is an option but then you play roulette with the above requirements. Most breeds (i.e. terriers or poodles) are kinda...

I talked to a LEO one time about the .25. He told me he knew of an incident where the bullet, fired from close range, failed to penetrate a heavey leather coat. Something about a through and through on the sleeve near the shoulder but stopped in the upped pocket. Guy thought the other guy missed com...

Bringing my brother into the light
A couple of months ago I turned my nephews on to the wonders of my Marlin 1894C and pre-safety Interarms Rossi 92. The boys (16 and 17 years old) had a blast. Yesterday my dad and I met my brother at the local range. I brought both carbines and 400 rounds of 357 and 38 spec. The Marlin wears a Leupo...

Whoa Nelly! I'd love for my wife to take credit for creating the timeline but that would be unfair. If I recall correctly it came with her textbook. I think this is the correct citation: Ward, Geoffrey C. The Civil War: An Illustrated History. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, Inc., 1990. She will take cre...

OT - Civil War timeline
In cleaning out some old files due to the job transition I cam across a Civil War timeline from when my wife finished her B.A. Kinda neat. It's long, so my apologies if it proves unwieldly to post. "In your hands, my dissatisfied fellow countrymen, and not in mine, is the momentous issue of civ...

Whoa! Hot topic! I LOVE dogs. Common sense here guys. 1.) You see a healthy looking dog in the woods just running around. There are houses within a half mile or so--'ya leave him alone or try to return him. I have done that. 2.) Your hunting (or whatever) and you see a mongrel or other nasty lookin...

I passed on a pre-64 model 94 today
I guy who lives near me had a pre-64 (1952, serial 1,910,000 range) Winchester model 94 30-30 in the local newspaper. I posted about it on the other forum. I looked at it today and it seemed in good shape except for a patch of surface rust near the serial number. The barrel was not clean so the accu...

Working the lever to slick it up
I love my Marlin 1894C but she's still kinda stiff. I've read where guys will cycle the action over and over to slick it up. Does this work? Do you need to let the hammer down or just work the lever? How many times do you need to do it before the "slickness" is noticeable? Does it drive th...

I got laid off three weeks ago tomorrow
The pharmaceutical industry is very dynamic. Sometimes that's a good thing, as companies expand to meet new needs. Sometimes not, as companies contract due to lower revenues. On 30 November I got THE phone call. We downsized and, with deep regret, my company had no place for me. Hey, it was a good s...
