I absolutely LOVE the '06. Mild recoil, hard hitting, many loads, and you can find ammo anywhere. It'll kill anything that walks, runs, or flies.

It's my grandpa's name and address. That deluxe 71 is the first and only rifle he ever owned that was bought new. My dad told me that grandma bought it it for him for Christmas and he carried it with him all day, like a child would carry a teddy bear. Wouldn't put it down.

I was looking at Hornady's ballistic calculator on their web site http://www.hornady.com/ballistics/ballistics_calculator.php and I got to thinking about killing power. Assuming a 158 gr Hornady XTP-FP with a BC of .199 and a muzzle velocity of 2000fps, the energy in foot/pounds at 100 yards is 944....

The rifle had swivel studs in place. I don't think the barrel was 24", more like 20". The rear sight did not have an elevator, instead it had a screw that elevated the rear sight by pushing against the barrel. I didn't like that arrangement. Also, it was d&t'ed on the side for a receiv...

What's a Marlin 336AS?

Seeing as how I do not own a Marlin 30-30, I spotted one at the local pawn shop today. Crossbolt safety, model 336AS. Priced at $279 and he wouldn't budge. Microgroove, overall I'd rate at 97%.
What's the AS mean? I hope it doesn't mean I'm an AS$ for not buying it.

I bought 2 cases (unopened) of Winchester 200 grain Silvertips in 348 from Gunbroker. They came today and I am very pleased! As new, in great shape. Total price came out to $34.50 per box, including shipping. I'm set for quite a while for my 71. The username is LTE and he did great by me.
