Have him go online to the Selective Service website and check his registration if it says he is not registered it only takes a minute to complete it on line. I do this for people all the time so that they can enlist it is an easy process. http://www.sss.gov/ He's 43 years old. Way past the deadline...

I like slings but I don't hunt with the sling attached. I carry a cheapie in my backpack. I put the sling on if I need both hands to drag a deer or such like. Several times (but not nearly enough) I have hung my rifle from the antler of a big ol' bull riding my back on the packout to camp. :D No way...
