Re: Have you guys tried this? .44 Bullets from 40 S&W Cases

I have some bullets for the old 41 Colt. They are a heel type bullet and are a bit smaller in diameter than a regular .40 bullet. They fit in a 40 S&W just fine when pushed all the way down, but with a bit of air space between the bottom of the bullet and the base of the .40 case. A small bit of...

Destination Tokyo (the movie)

Just watched this old movie from 1943 starring Cary Grant. There is a scene in the movie where a three man patrol from the submarine goes ashore and they are armed with Winchester M 1894 carbines. I wonder if US submarines really did cary Winchester rifles aboard or is this just movie stuff. Any ide...

Cast bullet powder for a .348

What would be a great powder for a cal..348 Winchester shooting the RCBS 200 gr. gas check bullet. Looking for a velocity of about 1900 fps.
Thanks.

Re: .348 DC & Mule deer buck.

Thanks All, The rifle is a Marlin 1895 re chambered by David Clements to his proprietary cartridge the .348 DC. It is formed from 45/70 cases, case length is 2.0 inches. From what I can tell this cartridge adds about 50 fps to the .348 winchester stats. Of course another advantage is the ability to ...

Re: 1876 cases found with metal detector

I was detecting at Fort Douglas, Utah a few years ago and found a 50/70 case. It was inside primed and had no headstamp.
In Wyoming a few years back while hunting Antelope, my buddy found a 45/75 case lying on the ground. Cool.

Re: .348 DC by David Clements

Since the Marlin M1895 accepts 50 Alaskan, a non-bottle necked cartridge, and 470 Turnbull, a bottle necked cartridge, without resorting to altering M1895's cartridge length, and 510 Kodiak Express, a bottle necked cartridge with OAL of 2.73 inches -- all of which are based upon the 348/50-110 basis...

Re: 405 win Ruger no.1

I had one and I REALLY liked it. I eventually sold it because it was to heavy for the type of hunting I do here in Utah for mule deer. To much walking up and down canyons to lug that heavy beauty around. Mine really liked the cast bullet Mountain molds made up for me as well as factory jacketed. I t...

Re: .348 DC by David Clements

I do not know why DC designed this cartridge instead of just going with the .348 Winchester. I can only assume there is a good reason. Looking at the data it appears that the DC will easily equal the Winchester and You can easily add a scope as well. Why would one invest this kind of money in a rifl...

Re: .348 DC by David Clements

Clements custom guns in Woodlawn VA. is who makes these and he designed the cartridge.
Price including the base gun starts at about 1550.00.
Mine as shown cost 1650.00
Pretty expensive but I am only one of four people who own one. :D
The cartridge is based on the 45/70 case.

Marlin 1894 CL, problem, need advice

Today I picked up a brand new, unfired Marlin 1894 CL in cal. 32-20. It was on consighment at a somewhat local gun store. It was priced to sell and I have wanted one as a companion to my USFA in the same caliber. Well, I brought it home and decided to perform a function test with my handloaded ammo....

Kirk,
I had that RCBS mold but I sold it. I found the crimp groove to be very thin and got thinner after sizeing. It would not hold the bullet in place in the tubular magazine of an Uberti 1873 and a USFA Lightning. And yes, I was useing a LEE factory crimp die.
I would not reccomend it.
